"Shakespeare's Champion" does not come cheaply!

For Christmas, I bought my wife a 'Lily Bard' mystery: Shakespeare's Landlady or something like that. She was looking for the next book, and lo and behold, you cannot get it for less than $70.00 or so. Check this out at Amazon (I do not have an associate ID in the link). I have looked at Froogle, also, and although a few cheaper links popped up, they did not pan out as real sales.
One seller wants over $900? OK, that is probably a typo (maybe!)... But $70+ for a paperback? 272 pages? That lists for $5.99? Reminds me of my college textbooks.

Why? This seems to be a rare book. Rare books can cost a lot of money.
Addtionnaly, this is quite common to see new items cost ten times more
than second-hand ones. Now, the question is: is it really a rare book?

the first online store I tried lists it for 20€ (which is still expensive, but less than half amazon's price) so it won't be that rare
maybe I should buy their leftover stock and sell it on amazon :)

I guess my WTF reaction here is that the other books in the series are priced about what you would expect: either list price for new, or slightly less for used. Even assuming that some disaster wiped out a warehouse full of this book, the price seems out of bounds. My wife says the books are good, but not that good.

change... The WTF in this case is that Amazon sellers can be that
ignorant of other marketplace prices for their wares.

A 3-year-old video game (whose previous versions are about $15) for a measly $100 - double the original MSRP.

The other one is $40+ with 3 days left, so I am not encouraged. Thanks for taking the time to look, though.
What I have done is found a much cheaper copy on amazon.co.uk (from a marketplace seller), and ordered that. Interestingly enough, it is supposed to be shipped from New Jersey! I hope it's not a scam or fake out...

I regularly buy stuff off zShops based in Jersey, and so far, I've never had a problem. They're already saving a bit from the tax dodge, so don't need to rip off their customers, I guess.

Actually it makes perfect sense for the price to be particularly high
if one in a series is much rarer than the others. Gets not only the
people who'd collect it for the rarity alone, but also those who for
some reason loved the others in the series very much and want to get
all of it.
And there's always the speculators who buy something at a ridiculously
high price simply because they expect to become even more ridiculous.
