No interview questions?!

  • Hi

I've applied for a Java Junior Programmer position recently and had my first interview last week. It went fine and the interviewer invited me for another interview today with the crew so I thought they will ask me some questions about Java. The hour passed by and they didn't ask a single question about Java or programming. After thinking about it I'm suspicious that it could be a WTFy company, though they seems to do good software and what I could do seems to be quiet cool.

Is it normal that juniors don't get technical interview questions?

  • I think that I'd be suspicious too.  I interviewed for two junior dev positions after college and both grilled me.

  • What did they ask you about?

Who I am, What I did, What I'm going to do in the future, my hobbies. Stuff like this. Nothing near a technical question. And they are going to decide next week wether they take me or not. Anyway. I have another interview for an asp.net job.

  • IMO it's a bit strange. I've had interviews without technical questions, but that was with people who already knew what I did at my previous job.

Anyway, if you had a good education, maybe they just look at the degree and think "everything else he needs, we will teach him",

  • I sat through 2 interviews without being asked any technical questions. At the end I persuaded them to give me some sort of ability test. I was hired but the demo program I did wasn't needed to swing them..

It did turn out to be a WTF-y company. Never any clear specs and constant personal remarks...

Oh and the lead dev informed me you cannot sub class code behind ASP.Net pages.. i.e. subclass a System.Web.Page subclass. I still cannot see why

  • Maybe your body piercings scared them and they didn't want you to "freak out" if they asked you something technical.

FYI, I'm all for installing a hidden button in the interview room which notifies security if a candidate gets out of hand.

  • Why would you assume I have body piercings and my personality to be of a volatile nature?

    I smell noobs. ;-)

    Read this thread

It's kind of an insider joke.

  • Is it CPound that's the inside joke or the fact he's only willing to employ smartly dressed programmers?

(In that case I'm sure he wouldn't have hesitated employing me.. my clothes looked so smart they came with a PhD from Cambridge)

I only read the Front page stories daily.. other What The F**k stories I skim every once in a while...
