"When can you do that for us?"

I helped a customer upgrade our software this summer, including a runtime upgrade and moving to a new server. We wound up running the installer three times, and he took copious screenshots. You might think the IT Manager would be able to learn how to do it himself after this, but yesterday he emailed me asking to schedule a time to upgrade to the newest version of our app. I assume from this he means he's still unable to do it himself. It's no more complex than, say, installing Word. You tell it the DB connection parameters (basically just host and port) and what directory the programs are in, and it does the rest, but that's apparently too hard for an IT guy who's already seen the process three times and has screenshots of every single dialog.

I should be grateful that one of the worst parts of the job is having to help well-meaning knuckleheads do the same thing year after year. I just wish I could charge them above and beyond annual maintenance.

Yeah, that's probably true. This is a standalone app installed on site. Our customers tend to be the kind that probably wouldn't pay for a cloud-based app.
