YouTube WTF

  • I found the YouTube equivalent of printing a page, placing it on a wooden table, taking a picture of it and uploading it to a website. Occasionally I go on YouTube and look at people who upload songs they have written. Maybe that is the real WTF, but sometimes you find something good. This ain't it. It looks to me like she recorded herself with a video camera, played it back on a TV, recorded that with another camera and then uploaded it to youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcMoWXbS6sI

  • Geez.. people will do anything. She probably recorded the original video with an actual camera to either DVD or tape. Then, she decided to post it on YouTube 4 years later. Video converters are cheap. I bet someone she knows probably has one. But.. she probably also didn't know there is such a thing.

  • Video production and conversion is the least of her worries.  Both her guitar and her vocals were horribly off key.  As a singer (and past musician) it disturbs me how many people think they actually sound good.

Then again, we've made an entire industry out of people who can't sing becoming famous singers.

Wasn't listening.. I use earbuds at work, but didn't feel like hearing it. I figured it would suck, though.

Yup.. YouTube and American Idol have proved that. The world is coming to an end as we know it.

  • It's surprising how common that is on youtube, I've even seen it done with posted commercial TV shows.

The only good thing to ever come from pointing a video camera at a screen is doctor who-like visual feedback.

  • Now, what you need to do is:

Get a digital camera with a good burst shot mode (at least 5 shots per second)
Take shots from the YouTube video
    Print off those screenshots
Bind the printed pages together so it works as a 'flipbook'
Film yourself flipping through that flipbook while humming along to the original audio
    Upload said film to YouTube

Being tone-deaf is nasty because you can't tell that you're off key.

The footage of the original moon landing was broadcast from space to the Parks radio telescope in Australia in some obscure video format that nobody knew how to convert. So the footage that everyone saw on their TV of the moon landing, and the footage that people still see of the moon landing was actually made using this same technique!

They couldn't convert the signal, so they set up a video camera pointing at the monitor that received the original footage - thats why its so god-dammed blurry. The original footage was actually at a good resolution and very crisp, but NASA lost the tape after the Aussies sent it to the US... So now we're stuck with the video'ed video version...

you know, i think that might actually be a pretty good idea..

    Interesting.

Of course the sad thing is that just as we're entering an era of digital-based interopability, we're instead entering an era where something like that might be required to be done again, thanks to the wonders of DRM, and end-to-end encryption.

  • dear stupid people-

first off... this video i made was a joke for my friends in 10th grade. Secondly, my cord for hte video camera that connects it to the computer was lost cause we moved, and my friends from home wanted to see the video i made for them from highschool so I recorded it for them from my camera. Thirdly, I'm not tone deaf... I sing very well, and sometimes videos posted aren't serious, and this one happened to be my fake singing voice when i'm messing around. So maybe you can take your silly lil wtf blog and laugh at it, and actually ask questions to the person that posted it cause they'll probably say guess what i wasn't singing good on purpose, and i'm not going to go buy a new converter for my old video camera to post a shitty video for my friends. SOoooO.. WTF to you guys for being completely lame... and guess what. :) i'm awesome and have a nice day.
