Steam: How many dollars is five?

Steam really wants you to buy Deus Ex.

TRWTF is that he didn't get them at that Humble Bundle when they all went for peanuts.
Speaking of Deus Ex, I should get back to it... Great game in terms of setting and atmosphere, even if the difficulty swings wildly between enemies being dumb as rocks and being just as dumb, but with lots and lots of guns to compensate.

good old Steam:
TIL 50% of 14.99 is 14.99
-
TIL 50% of 14.99 is 14.99
That's not what it says at all. 50% of £14.99 is Free to Play.

that means £14.99 is 2(Free to Play)
how many hats is that?

It's also cute that it's supposed to sort by lowest price but prices are all over the place!

Makes you wonder what is really happening back there. How does a product valued at $9.99 appears in a view which clearly would apply a filter (either in code or in SQL). So many things can go wrong in such a simple looking task.
Maybe the error is related to the fact that a Deus Ex DLC is priced at 4.99 ?

If you already have the normal Deus Ex HR in your Steam library, then the Director's Cut has a massive permanent discount on it placing it at, iirc, $4.99. However, the method by which the discount is applied does not work together with other temporary discounts, and the temporary discount will overwrite the permanent discount for display purposes in most parts of the store and allegedly also when checking out and having to pony up the cash.
This was hilarious during the last Summer Sale, because it would be cheaper to wait until after the sale to buy the DC than buying it during the sale.

People still pay for games?

People still pirate games?
apparently, much to the annoyance of hte ones who actually pay for the games and have to deal with all the anti-piracy crap the publishers add to their games to stop the pirates from pirating their games.
they're never successful at stopping pirates and their anti-piracy measures demonstrably drive people away from their games (or towards piracy because the pirate versions don't have that shite baked in anymore)

I buy games from Steam and avoid buying anything that costs more than thirty to forty dollars. That way, I get to keep my games no matter what computer I'm on, I can share my games with my family, and I'm able to avoid buying any games with UPlay or some other "phone home every few frames to make sure you still own the game" software.
Plus, it keeps track of my settings for most games across reinstalls and I don't lose saves from my singleplayer games when I move to a new computer.

Sadly that last bit isn't true. Steam let a few games through with UPlay attached-- notably Might and Magic Heroes VI and Rayman Origins & Rayman Legends.
I don't buy Ubisoft games on Steam anymore. Might and Magic Heroes VI was a total clusterfuck from start to finish.

Yeah, they just lost a sale here because I saw the Uplay notice, looked it up, and went "Nope!". And the game looked fun, too.

The newest Rayman platformers are incredible. Almost worth tolerating UPlay. But... no.

Yeah, I'd seen those mentioned around here (something about using the Viking woman correctly), and they looked interesting, but I meant "Divinity: Original Sin".
I guess that's more than one game now, since I probably would have bought one of the Rayman games when I remembered to look them up.
-
Wait, no, wrong game. I need to look up which one it was. UPlay was apparently so repulsive I forgot which game it was applied to.
-

The viking chick is an unlockable character in Rayman: Legends. It's also the one with the music levels, which are FUCKING AMAZINGLY HILARIOUSLY FUN AS SHIT.
Don't get me wrong, Origins is great too, but Legends ramps it up to mega-great.
-
"Assassin's Creed: Black Flag" is what it was. Mostly for the pirate stuff, not because of the assassins creed stuff.
-
Rayman: Legends
So is that one available without uplay? Because I might buy it if it is.
-
Belgium! It isn't.
-
I just said it wasn't. Not on Steam at least.
The Xbox and presumably PS3 ports don't have UPlay. For what that's worth. It requires a real game controller anyway.

That's a game I won't touch on the grounds that I know that the game mechanics will irritate the hell out of me. There's something about all the Might+Magic stuff that just leaves me dissatisfied; what the devs concerned think is fun, I think is stupid. My money is better spent elsewhere, even before considering whether they've made a particular instance bad or worse.

They're on consoles aren't they? If so then that's clearly the way to go.
