Heya, another non tech wtf - Israeli minister in vision gaffe - I cracked up when it said he kept looking through them and agreeing with what he was told he should be seeing. It brings a whole load of questions like "what did he think was happening when all he could see was black", "didn't he think to mention to someone that he couldn't see anything", "did it not cross his mind to check if the caps where still on". Maybe the military guy was explaining their ultra new stealth tech and the minister thought it made everyone see black...

I think photographers know to have their camera ready when someone not accustomed to looking through binoculars are given a pair. They forget to take off the lens caps, get the picture taken and are made to look the fool.

Pretty simple: J. Random Polly is looking at something off in the distance and is handed a pair of binoculars. For some idle reason, the person handing them to him hasn't taken the lens caps off. Polly is concentrating on the view and doesn't, before bringing them up to his eyes, check them to see if the caps are in place or not (why would they be?). The photo is quickly taken.

It's the continuing to leave the lens caps on and pretending that one can see that is the disturbing part.

Of course, if anybody had read the article, they'd know that "Mr Peretz looked through the capped binoculars three times, nodding as Gen Ashkenazi explained what was in view."

I skimmed it and the previous photos immediately came to mind and I posted.

Re-reading it now I see that the photographer alleges it wasn't a one time oops.

Sorry.

I rarely believe the things alleged by photographers. Especially when it's political.

My hunch there is "real photograph; inaccurate description."

It could have been that Peretz didn't get a chance to look through the binoculars or adjust them; Ashkenazi kept talking to him, so he'd lower the binoculars to converse.

I'm probably being naive but I believe the description since they could of just said the whole "it was a brief over-exagirated once-off accident" instead of coming back with "oh ya! well other politicians have done it"

they did mention in their article that other politicians have done it.

"According to daily Yediot Ahronot, US President George W Bush and former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon have both done the same thing."
