Blue notification...?
-
Is anyone else not getting the blue notification icon in the header for likes/replies etc. ? I'm still getting the green one for PMs and (not that it'll mean much to most of you) the red one for flags.
Currently seen (or, rather, not) on 2 desktops and one mobile so I'm suspecting the update this morning.
-
No repro on work desktop (Chrome/Windows 7, CBA to look up the Chrome version).
-
there's a red one?
ooh! i must have all the colours! (no, i don't, but i like that line anyway)
anyway i'm seeing green and blue no problem.
Edit: chrome 64bit 30... 40.... whatever the latest is.
-
I did actually see it flash up there an mobile for this, then it disappeared..
-
oooh! that issue!
i've seen that before!
do you happen to have a discourse tab open anywhere (same computer or different) where the notifications dropdown is open?
happened to me about a month back and was driving me bananas until i found that tab that had that menu open in the background (and resetting my unread notifications flag)
-
If you have a topic open then you aren't supposed to get the notification is my understanding. Though if I have it open in another tab I used to get it if that tab wasn't in focus.
-

I see no greens. But that's not a bug
Anyway, works for me in Opera, both desktop and mobile. Weird that it happens to you consistently across browsers.
Something mucking up the message bus?i found that tab that had that menu open in the background (and resetting my unread notifications flag)
Never mind... and that's a stupid design decision, shouldn't it react to clicks, rather than
:visible
?
-
there's a red one?
Appears top right on the hamburger.

That's entirely possible. Sadly, I'm mobile, and the other 4 candidates are at home and work...
-
it's not even that!
just LOADING http://what.thedailywtf.com/notifications.json causes that number to be reset!
try it yourself! ;-)
thats why there's a config option in sockbot to ignore notifications... otherwise i'd never see the blue circle
-

Oh... so the polling forces refresh on all visible elements, the menu requests
notifications.json
and the method that marks things as "seen" gets triggered. That's just wonderful.
-
Make sure to load notifications.json without ?silent=true, or the unread_notifications_count will never go away.
you can of course suppress the resetting read status if you want, but the webUI doesn't use that option at all.
-
Hold on... Why is that even there? Seriously? It can't be for bots since they are impossible on Discourse...
Don't tell me even a mythical Discourse plugin will do it without
silent
? That's... interesting.mrburns.jpeg

i think it's actually there to support how they implement http://what.thedailywtf.com/users/accalia/notifications (replace username as appropriate. i have no idea what you'd see there on my profile and the /me/ trick doesn't work for that screen)
-
i have no idea what you'd see there pon my profile
Kinky.. o_O
=-O
(Ok, being admin has its (dis)advantages)
-
-
I haven't had this problem. I have one up there right now. And I've seen it today with all three bubbles.

Lies. http://what.thedailywtf.com/my/notifications
i think it's actually there to support how they implement http://what.thedailywtf.com/users/accalia/notifications
Also wrong, it's just a different database query.
Also, what I see on http://what.thedailywtf.com/users/accalia/notifications is "Access Denied".
-
-
ok.... why did that link work for you and not me... i swear i'm either batguano insane or i tried that URL not an hour ago!
also good to know that i was wrong.... do you know why it *is there?
-
Just a guess...
the /me/ trick
httpÂ://what.thedailywtf.com/my/notifications
-
It didn't work as you said:
i have no idea what you'd see there on my profile and the /me/ trick doesn't work for that screen
where as what works is:
Lies. http://what.thedailywtf.com/my/notifications
EDIT: adding the bold broke the link and I was getting HANZOed
-
:facepalm.pcm:
nevermind....... i am apparently batguano crazy.
-
ooh! i must have all the colours!
$('<a href="#" class="badge-notification unread-private-messages">99</a>').appendTo('.icons .notifications'); $('<a href="#" class="badge-notification unread-notifications">99</a>').appendTo('.icons .notifications'); $('<a href="/admin/flags/active" class="badge-notification flagged-posts">99</a>').appendTo('.categories.dropdown');

Also, try this link:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/my/oogabooga
http://what.thedailywtf.com/my/four-oh-fourIt's a catch-all redirect.
-
i meant the ?silent=true param, not /my/ ;-)
