Create a topic you don't have access to
-
I tried to create this topic twice in the sidebar:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/will-it-post/4849?u=boomzilla
I created topics 4847 and 4849. But it said I didn't have access to the topic. Whaaa?
When I tried to create again, it told me that the topic title had already been used twice. I created the topic in OnePost and moved it out (and removed auto-close).

They ended up in Uncategorized - you don't have access to it?
-
There's an Uncategorised category?
-
Uh huh.
-
It looks like from that screen shot that you have uncategorized topics turned off... If that is the case, how was he able to create one?

If he doesn't actually have access to the category, that's the bug.
As admin, I have access and can create posts there.

Probably the same way I had a reply end up in the wrong thread the other day, or the same way I @mentioned someone and when the post baked or cooked or boiled or whatever, it changed to someone else's username.
It's Discourse. Expect the unexpected. Unexpect the expected.

Gotcha. So admins can do whatever the hell they want, even if those settings are turned off? That seems like a bug also...

To be fair, as an admin, I'm supposed to know what I'm doing...
-
-
WTF's that one supposed to be?
-
Yeah, but still. If you have uncategorized disabled, a reasonable person would expect it to not show up as an option for anyone. Also, they are expecting to be able to just turn this loose to the unwashed masses (hipsters seem to love this shit, so that term is even more fitting). They will not know what they are doing.

If I had to venture a guess, I would say "constipated".

It's the disappointed emoticon from Office Communicator.
-
Yes, but if for some reason, someone decides to create a topic, or few, there anyway (/me looks at @boomzilla) there needs to be some way of moving them out if they need it...
-
-
Well it was better than either of these.
-
Yeah, those look like they need some lithium before they go off the deep end.
-
Found the cause.
You aren't supposed to change the security for Uncategorized, or stuff breaks. For this reason, the security settings are hidden in the UI...
-
Huh? Why are people given the option to break things?
-

I wasn't aware it had been changed... (not that I currently have the option to do so, and I've not updated the site yet.)

ISAGN for a whole emoji-set based on this one...

I swear I had the category filled in as Sidebar! And it wasn't clear to me that anything had been created. I mean...WTF?

That third one should probably be moved to Rubbish though..
-
I'll point out that most of the company is still on Office 2003 and let you guess if we're on Lync or not.
-
The Uncategorised category should contain a topic with the title Untitled.
-
-
We're going to Cisco Jabber at some point.
-
Ah yes, yet another one falls to the classic front-end trap of "It's invisible, therefore, it does not exist" (or is it "There's no button, therefore, the result can't be generated"?). If doing something breaks the software, it should be prevented on the back-end.
-
#Cisco
AAAAAAARGH! Wait...
Jabber
Did they hijack the name or is it just hard-to-configure proprietary XMPP server?
-
Pass. Knowing Cisco probably both.
