Am I pwned? Or is Ask.fm pwned?
-
Tried to visit a Ask.fm question, got:
Here's the link I clicked (broken for obvious reasons): http-//t.co/XgMsJkk2La (from this tweet).
What's everybody else seeing? I'm 99% sure it's the site and not me, but now it's made me paranoid.
-
Nevermind, I guess I could have done a bit of research before posting here. Looks like they are indeed pwned, and have been for some time. (That was posted in June!)
-
What the hell is an ask.fm?
-
Music site, community and discussions. They also had a thing that detected what you were playing (Scrobbling) and provided analytics to you and other users.
Edit: It was pretty good for discovering similar music and playlists for your tastes.
Edit2: I read gud...
-
Uh, isn't that http://www.last.fm?
-
Isn't that last.fm ?
Darn - Hanzoed.
-
I'm not sure who gets whooshed here.
-
Uh, don't mind me. I should have actually read what was said.
I don't have any idea either what ask.fm is.
-
That's ok, you still read better than FrostCat. I actually thought you were doing the mixup on purpose as a joke, and aliceif didn't get it.
-
Huh. Wasn't aware they were serving malicious ads.
Adblock FTW
-
Would you have supported our gamification by giving me a flag?
-
Sadly this thing is more common than it should. Especially on mobile. I got a prompt for a malicious Android app on goddamn imgur.com
-
I just noticed that the malicious page has the belgium TLD.
Creepy.

I don't specifically know about ask.fm, but I've seen a number of sites that intermittently serve up malware-laced redirect ads like this. You'll be reading along, and an ad loads and bam, "your computer has been hacked, download our av checker" or whatever.

Maybe if you'd write more interestingly and be less helpless.
-
I've noticed this specially when browsing with my Android phone. There are so many sites that redirect me to some JS pop-up (not the typical one to install their app instead of using their mobile site, i.e. wikia, linkedIn) to do something (I don't even read that crap) I guess installing WhatsApp Gold or some shit like that.

Malvertising sucks, especially if you're a webmaster.

Best way to deal with that is an ad blocker.

Lately, a lot of pages (incl. TVTropes) have been working fine on desktop, but somehow manage to put in a "Your phone might have a virus" dialog on mobile, which after tapping OK, tapping outside, tapping Back, or basically doing anything, does a damn redirect to a malware site.
Also, why the hell do you use ask.fm? Dunno about the rest of the world, but here the average user age does not exceed 12.
