Bugs while making Poppies post

After about the 5th bug while writing one fucking post, I started taking notes. Other than the normal bug where two one-boxes will glom-onto each other unless you separate them with a nonsense HTML tag, which has been posted a billion times...

    1:

<small> tags run-into and bleed over oneboxes:

    Small text

Onebox with small text for no fucking reason!

    2:

Which of these constructs would you expect to have more whitespace:

    Line 1: Onebox
    Line 2: (blank line)
    Line 3: "Caption"

    or...

    Line 1: Onebox
    Line 2: "Caption"

    Let's try!

    Caption

Of course! This being Discourse, adding a blank line reduces the amount of spacing in the result!!!

Fuck this buggy shit software. Fuck Discourse devs. Fuck you, Alex, for shoveling this shit down our throats. I can only guess Atwood's "happy customers" are illiterate jackals who never actually fucking TYPE ANYTHING AT ALL. Or they'd quickly realize how fucking impossible it is to do any kind of even slightly interesting formatting in Markdown. You heard it here first: Markdown is only good for illiterate jackals. Who lick their own balls.

  • I just realized bug 1 only happens in the preview window, not in the live post.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF A PREVIEW WINDOW THAT DOESN'T PREVIEW THE CONTENTS OF THE POST!!!!!

    Test

No wait, now it's not doing one-box at all inside a SMALL tag? WTF!

EDIT: Oh nevermind, that ALSO is broken in the preview but works in the live post. EDIT EDIT: Of course now the bug is the onebox closes the SMALL tag when it shouldn't-- this text should be small but isn't.

Can we go back to like Word 95? Word 95 worked a lot better than this editor. Just have a huge JavaScript emulation of a 486 running Word 95, and I think I'll legit have a better experience than using Markdown.

What's the opposite of "Progress?" "Congress?" Ha ha! No. It's Discourse. This forum has taken the art of software back at least a decade. Welcome to Windows 3.1-quality software, but somehow even worse.

  • Also your second one looks fine in the rendered version for me.

Edit: Basically the 'preview' is a just rough estimate of what you might get is what I'm getting from your frustration. Which is part of the reason I don't normally use it.

  • Look at the spacing between the bottom of the Onebox and the word "caption".

The first has a blank line in the editor. The second doesn't.

The first, the one where I signaled my intent to the software to have a lot of whitespace there, has less whitespace than the second where I signaled my intent to the software to have zero whitespace.

  • OK, after zooming in and doing image manipulation I can see it. Just is slight on my screen so I didn't notice at first.

  • It's very obvious when you're typing it, and you think "I want a little more space here" so you hit Enter, and you end up with LESS space in the preview window. Then you throw your computer out the window because this software is the most frustrating thing ever made since Lotus Notes.

    1. Test
    2. Of
    3. Shitty
    4. Broken
    5. Lists

Oh look the "typing '3.' produces '1.'" regression ... wait what? The first time I did that and hit save it didn'-- fuck it I'm beyond caring.

Hmm....I'm not getting this in chrome. Looking at the source, the small tags are being closed inside of the p tags for that text. And the text looks non-small:

    EDIT: oops:

You aren't looking close enough. I took your screen cap and measured the whitespace. In the first (onebox/blankline/text) there is 18px of space between the onebox and the text. In the second (onebox/text) there is 23px of space between the onebox and the text. Just like @blakeyrat was complaining about.

Edit: You got that already though.

  • You don't need screencaps, just try it yourself in the preview window. Do a onebox, then type a line of text. Use your Mark I eyeballs to observe the preview window. Now add a blank line. Go back to your Mark I eyeballs and see what happens.

Screencaps! Sheesh! I'm unintentionally successfully trolling people.

  • I see it just fine. I was using the image that @locallunatic posted to prove your point, so just chill a little bit.
