Benefits websites are the worst

  • Long time lurker, first time poster, blah blah. This one made me rage enough to get signed up over here. Hopefully this isn't Discoformatted too badly.

Time to update my health insurance (we get ~2 weeks to make changes for the next year). Shopping the different plans offered by my employer. They all have two tiers, "standard" and "enhanced". I vaguely remember something like "if you get a yearly physical and have a healthy BMI (trwtf?) you get the enhanced rate", but never could I track down what the requirements were...

Logged onto the insurance company's website. No reference whatsoever to Enhanced vs Standard rates. Awesome.

Hop over to the corporate benefits site. It links back over to the insurance company's website (just the index page of it, not a specific page) with "to learn about Enhanced/Standard, click here". Double awesome.

But wait! The corporate benefits site also has a link elsewhere for "Enhanced Benefit Level". On that page, there's a "click here" to go to sub.CrappyThirdPartyWellnessSite.com/something/new_user_landing_page.html or something like that. That 404's.

    Going to sub.CrappyThirdPartyWellnessSite.com/something/ 403's.

Going to sub.CrappyThirdPartyWellnessSite.com redirects to sub.CrappyThirdPartyWellnessSite.com/index.htm, which redirects to itself infinitely.

Going to CrappyThirdPartyWellnessSite.com also redirects to sub.CrappyThirdPartyWellnessSite.com/index.htm, which redirects to itself infinitely.

I have no idea if this is an artifact of not running fucking IE9 from within the confines of the corporate LAN, but I wouldn't be surprised.

And now that I've gone through again to try to make sure I remembered the sequence of events correctly, the corporate website's JavaScript link which eventually opens CrappyThirdParty... won't open any new windows, which doesn't heal upon logout and login, and from an incognito tab I get "Noodle_SocketException" when I try to log in.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the "enhanced" rate is a lie.

tl;dr: employee-facing systems suck. Oh, BTW, we still use a mainframe app to enter our timecard...

  • Welcome to The Corporate Culture™.

I'm too tall to have a healthy BMI.

    cut to commercial

"For a healthy BMI, find out if anorexia is right for you."

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

About half way through that process, btw, is where you give up and call HR and ask them.

  • Nope, as we all learned today from Mott555 the best way to handle a situation like this is to remain confused and then waste money on things you can't use.

  • successfully Discosearched to find the relevant post, don't know what you guys are complaining about

That's a fair response. I tend to jump down rabbit holes too easily, especially when I'm on free time.

  • Fake News

Don't worry, it'll be super-duper-awesome when we get single-payer "health" "care."

  • Could be worse... our company insurer website REQUIRES IE7. And no, I'm not joking.

Best part? It's a publicly accessible site...

It still has <!--if [IE 5]> tags......
