User Cards - Badges and other Sexy Curiosities

Since @PJH hasn't replied to this question in a random post I made:
What is a User Card Badge and how do I get in on this?
When I click on the pencil I get to choose between none and none.
Filed Under: Also, what are they good for?
-
When I click on the pencil I get to choose between none and none.
False. The none that is currently selected, and the none below that, are the same.

Since @PJH hasn't replied to this question in a random post I made:
Missed it, clearly - I've caught up on all apparently unread posts.
What is a User Card Badge and how do I get in on this?
Buggered if I know... I'll have a rummage to see what I can find.
-
Are you sure about that? They might be different options with the same name and result.
Filed Under: You can never know with Discourse!
-
Yes, but I did notice 3 other bugs with new options on the preferences page.
-
@chubertdev - Days Since Last Discourse Bug: 0
-
I went over to meta to find out if I can find a post describing them but I couldn't find any on the first 30 topics and then I stopped looking.
I am still kind of hoping the admin panel gives you clues about new features.

You mean -1.

Introduced just over a week ago, whatever it is:
[pjh@sofa discourse]$ git blame ./config/locales/client.en.yml | grep card_badge -B2 -A2 5dc35488 (Jeff Atwood 2014-08-11 16:29:02 -0700 419) log_out: "Log Out" 7c22d738 (Robin Ward 2014-05-27 13:54:04 -0400 420) location: "Location" 71f211f0 (Robin Ward 2014-10-20 13:15:58 -0400 421) card_badge: 71f211f0 (Robin Ward 2014-10-20 13:15:58 -0400 422) title: "User Card Badge" 71f211f0 (Robin Ward 2014-10-20 13:15:58 -0400 423) [pjh@sofa discourse]$
... ongoing...

Let's see:
multiple fields auto-save but give no notification that it did saveinterface language appeared to save without me clicking the save changes button, but didn't actually save- "When you don't visit the site, send an email digest of what's new:" - not sure why that colon is there
- "Don't update URL while scrolling through topics" - unchecked for me, even though I have this setting enabled
-
Wow, this seems completely useless.
-
Whoever maintains Discoursebot should change the code so it doesn't say
"NAME - Days Since Last Discourse Bug: 0"
but actually says:
"NAME - Discourse Bugs Since The Last Day: X" where X is the amount of times he has been summoned.
And then maybe say both. Just for "consistency" reasons.Filed Under: This totally a valid request
Addendum:
Wow, this seems completely useless.
Your meta.discourse-Fu is better than mine apparently. Also, what did you expect?
-
Looks like it might be something that can be associated with what groups a user is a member of?
-
I simply used the best Discourse search function: just Googling it.
"user card badge" Discourse
-
Found it.
On the bad configuration page, there's a new field:
If
Image
is filled out, and you have the badge, that badge appears in that dropdown and the image appears (that I've so far found) on your card in the bottom right:
-
Why the B*****m do I now have 76 unread topics?
-
On the bad configuration page
Sounds like a good configuration page to have!
Filed Under: Had to say it
Addendum:
Not sure why we need 2 ways to show badges on the profile-card, btw. but I still want in on this amazing new technology!
-
Oops. Freud strikes again.

(re)confirmed for stupid feature
(I already thought it was stupid when I saw it on Meta. This just reconfirms it.)
-

Ah, Discourse! How we love how you remember what we hadn't read from hours ago and smoosh it together with the current state to give us a most wonderfully misleading description of threads that are somewhat or totally unread!
Refresh fixes. For a while.
-
Nice to see there is a panoply of CSS selectors to deal with it, and if using a glyph it uses the same colours as the badges...
-
Nope, still had them unread. Dismissed them, have 1 unread that doesn't appear, and I can't get rid of.
-
Dismiss Posts hasn't worked for months now.
It leaves behind "zombie threads" that are marked unread ONLY ON CERTAIN TABS. If you click to the "unread" tab the zombie threads disappear.
For example, right now, the "latest" tab shows I have 12 unread. 11 of those are zombies. (That's actually pretty few, it was up to like 15 on my account for awhile.) If I click to "unread" it shows 1.
-
Yeah, I have 1 unread on the "Latest" tab, it doesn't show up at all on the "Unread" tab, and it won't go away.
-
You can get rid of zombies by opening the thread and just hitting End or scrolling to the bottom. If you care enough. I just keep them because I don't care enough.

Just did that.
I now have 2 Unread topics.

Apparently the only badge I have here that works is Mediocre Poster. Not that it can be seen against my background.
-
I think thats because it's the only one PJH added as a User Card Badge as a test. Not sure if more will / should follow. But at least I have a thumbs up in my card now.
Filed Under: Who even looks at these cards?
-

Yes, I know. Ironically, the image they posted on meta.d appears to be the bug reporter badge. Which I have. But I have no badge options available there.
-
Hm, looking at that config page... can you supply a custom image for a badge icon?
-
Ever since I noticed that you could set a background, probably nobody.
-
nterface language appeared to save without me clicking the save changes button, but didn't actually save
you have to hard-refresh to get the language to change.
-
This thing is just strange. Apparently, it only works with some badges, but I still don't get it as it already shows the badges on the user card anyway.
-
It's just like titles, but less visible!
-
Hm, looking at that config page... can you supply a custom image for a badge icon?
It appears so, which is new(ish - I noticed a while ago.)
-
I found a bug!
Left-Click on the user card icon thingie and you'll notice that the badge symbol on the badge's page is miscolourized:
Middle-Click and everything is fine:
WTF. How could such Discoursistency even happen?!?!
Paging @Matches
-
Yep, same with Passable Poster:
-
TRWTF is that the badge image has no tooltip. Not only it’s a useless feature, but it seems to be implemented to be as useless as possible.
-
fantastic
-
-
-
-
-
-
No one expects that!
Except they did expect the real ones - they were given about a month's notice.
-
I'm not even mad, I'm impressed...
-
Looking at things it appears the left click one gets "badge-type-" in class while the middle click one gets "badge-type-[color]". Pointed it out on meta.d with a link back to your discovery here.
Edit: realized that I should have included a link to the meta.d report:
