NaNoWriMo 2014
-
November's already here, it's almost time for NaNoWriMo!
Is anyone else going to be participating?
if so want to share how you are doing?
I'm starting work on my novella?... novelette?...story. I doubt this will be a full novel in length but it's a story I've had in my head for a long time and i need to get it out of my head.
Is anyone else going to be joining me?

self.Interest.pique("NaNoWriMo");
I've been working on my own stuff for the last three months; currently have a ~28,500 word novelisation (WIP; it'll definitely end up longer when I resume work on it), and a five-part short story that, collected together as one, ends up ~16,500 words (which makes it a long short story I guess). And I'm up to ~1,400 words on the follow-up, which I started writing just two days ago.
So clearly I can write.
Whether I join in this NaNoWriMo or not, I might, but then I might not. I'll see if I can come up with an idea.
As to whether what I write is any good... well, that's for others to judge I guess

I thought NaNoWriMo was some kind of anime until I Googled it.
-
edited in an explanatory link. sorry. forgot that.
-
I'd imagine if I was the type of person who was taking part, then I'd know what it was anyway.
As my creative writing talent stretches to that of a house brick, then I'm not
-
I might try to put down some of my short story ideas, but I say that every year.
I think I just prefer them in my head.

Or possibly a game like Ni No Kuni :)

I'm sure we'd give you reasonably honest critique if you were to ask, and I know that there are people here who would be genuinely and sincerely curious to see.
-
Well if I did put them down, they certainly wouldn't be under the Blakeyrat "brand", so they'd never end up here.

Fair enough. Just saying that there are people here that would legitimately be interested and not for trolling purposes.

I know it's scary, but you can do it.

November is hell month in my industry (second only to September). I'm just too burnt out from dayjob to commit to doing anything other than sleep. And committing to sleep is hard.

Are you trademarked already?
To be honest, though, go and do it. I liked your "submission" - taking the piss aside, your style is pretty fucking amazing.
As for me - I'm way burned out after London, so I doubt I'll be able to give it a go. A few short stories would be doable, but a full novel is a bit too much.

I've been having a lot of trouble getting my latest novel down, so I'm going to do some easy no-consequence fanfiction for my Nano this year, just to get the writing muscles nice and warmed up so I can finish this draft in December when I'll be taking time off work. I probably won't finish, since work's been pretty busy lately, but it should help a lot :)

I try to stick to sharply worded letters to the editor.

I have the irksome issue that I come up with decent character concepts, but wind up overengineering the plot to the point where the dramatic value shrivels up and dies; worse yet, it sometimes is very hard for me to override what my character wants to do for the sake of narrative [s]convenience[/s]continuing to exist. Having a character that runs around [s]solving[/s]destroying other folks' problems tends to put a damper on story...
