Read Only mode breaks reading posts

Shouldn't they have a secondary location that they store things like read statuses during "read-only mode" periods, and then push that over into the primary location once the read-only period is over?

Otherwise, like just now, I read an entire fucking topic and come back to the main page only to see that IT WASN'T MARKED FUCKING READ.
