Argos - Sorry we can't deliver your delivery...

  • So I woke up this morning at 11:40ish with a chronic grogginess from too much mulled wine last night.  My plan was to go to town and buy some christmas presents but when I saw the time I thought I'd cheat and see if I could still get home delivery on a couple of the bigger items.  Went to the argos.co.uk site to get a coffee maker and found that if I wanted anything delivered before christmas I had until 12:00pm, about 10 minutes after I got there.  That kind of sucked since there where about 6 coffee makers that I had to check out.  Anyhow, after going through the checkout 4 times, you have to get all the way through the checkout process before you can find out if the item is in stock, so after all of that I finally get the most expensive machine purchased at 11:59am :¬)  I'm pretty chuffed with myself at this point.  Then I get the confirmation email which informs me that there is a little problem with my order:

    So the bit they're saying they cannot deliver because it's out of stock is the next day delivery.  Took me a few re-reads to calm myself down and realise that the presents where still on their way and on schedule :¬)

  • Considered Harmful

    That tricked me, too.  How confusing.  "Next day delivery" is out of stock.  As if it were a tangible item and not a service!

    They may soon be out of stock on "customer satisfaction," and then out of stock on "customers," and ultimately out of stock on "money."  Or maybe I'm just romantic enough to believe that those who commit WTFs will ultimately pay the price.

    Perhaps this conversation took place:

    "Hey, the postal service is overwhelmed and can't guarantee overnight delivery"

    "Uh, I can flag it as out-of-stock in 30 seconds. It'll be a little silly looking, but it would kind of work."

    "Do it, then head home. Merry Christmas."

  • You can snag the codethulu image from the article, then upload to build a custom mug at: http://www.zazzle.com/

     I personally ordered one last night with 3 images for about $15 plus $~6 shipping:

    ==============================================

              Welcome to the Dark Side

    <codethulu> <TDWTF logo> <J2 Evil Edition>

                      Architects Rule

    ==============================================

    You can pick/add your own images, text/fonts/size/colors, borders - pretty cool!

    Zazzle also has a morphing mug (image shows up when it is full of something hot).

    I am taking one of our architectural cheat-sheet schematics and putting it on one of the morphing mugs with the title:

    The solution appears, as if by magic...

  • Frackin Argos, it's the day after they said it would be delivered and I just got off the phone with them.  I'm supposed of known due to my well heard of telepathy that "Next Day" to the 21st is actually the 28th.  I've found that out now at 3:45pm on the mostly last day to purchase goods in town.  I'm well narked off, especially since their email says:

    "Unfortunately the delivery date you selected is no longer available. Your scheduled delivery date and order details are given below."

    Which they arent besides it saying the 22nd.  Then later on it says:

    "If a delivery date isn't shown above, a member of our customer service team will contact you to arrange a suitable delivery day as soon as your goods are ready to be dispatched"

    So I would of had to wait until the 27th to find out that I wasn't getting my goods on the 22nd.  Arg!  Well and supremely ticked off.  I did just get told by the girl that I "can always cancel my order and get a full refund".

    Stupid order confirmation email, I hate Argos, I'm going to write them (after the 28th) and let them know what I think :¬)  I know if I do that prior to the 28th they'll just cancel my order and refund me.

    Ah screw it, I just reserved it at their only store to have one left which happens to be about as far on the other side of the city as you can get before it becomes the next place!  Time to hop on the first of many buses :¬)

  • Got a similar problem with fnac (www.fnac.fr), i ordered a limited edition "bande dessinée" there, quite expensive but was out of stocks in belgium. So i had no choice but buy in France and pay delivery in Belgium. 3 days later, i decide to check when it was to be delivered and discovered it was 'out of stock'. No warning, no email telling i can stuff it to get it for Xmas... Thanks fnac, first and last time i buy something to those thieves.

    I feel your pain.

    I've long since given up even considering ordering anything for delivery except for pizza, computer hardware, or the rare item that I can't get through brick and mortar stores.

    Computer hardware prices through B&M are just insanely high, so online is often the only way.

    For such things as books, the price is usually no better than B&M and usually involves both a long way and delivery charge.  Unless I can't get it through a bookstore, I'll order online.  For all other items, ordering online is the absolute last resort.

    /rant on

    I know I can't be that unusual.  Why the f*** can't companies that have both online and B&M link their stores better?  If they have a store, I really don't want to order it online.  If I get online to circuit city, I don't want to necessarily see what their online system offers, especially if it's doesn't have the same items and/or prices as their B&M stores.  I'd really like to see the online system let me view the available items and prices of the local B&M instead.  Or at least give me the option.

    That way I can shop at the store without going there, and I know they have the items I want.  I don't want to select an item and then find I have to wait 3 days for the item to get to the store.

    It seems to me that the cio's that conceive of their online presence never actually try to imagine it from a customer's perspective.  Maybe it's just me.

    /rant off.
