Now that's teamwork!

  • Notes on a bug request:

    [Senior Dev 1] 9/11/06 2:54 PM
The link [/MakeCustomWidget?p1=Foo&id=12345] works in [previous version] to create a [Foo-Type widget], and it should work in [current version] too, because people have links to it.

    [Senior Dev 2] 9/11/06 3:42 PM
Changed status from New to Not a bug
Nobody keeps a link to [Widget] creation. That's absurd.

    [Senior Dev 1] 9/11/06 3:43 PM
Changed status from Not a bug to New
Look at the parent bug, jackass.

    and this: [http://blog.about.our.product.com/a_better_way_to_make_widgets.html]

    [Senior Dev 2] 9/11/06 4:47 PM
Changed priority from P2 to P4
[Dev 1] - if you cared that much then you would fix it yourself.

    [Senior Dev 2] 9/12/06 1:17 PM
Changed target build from [current version] to [next version]
This is just one more thing for QA to test in [current version] and I don't think it's worth the hassle. I might do it in [next version].

    [Dev Manager] 9/27/06 2:42 PM
Changed priority from P4 to P3
    we should fix this.

  • This explains so much.......

  • I don't see the WTF. But then, my only experience with bug tracking is with Mozilla. (I'm 19.) Is this kind of stuff not normal?

  • This is a few little WTFs put together.  SD1 and SD2 are both fairly rude.  SD2's "nobody does X" appears to be unsubstantiated, given SD1's "look, here's our blog recommending that people do X".  DM declared a reasonable compromise, but (as far as we can tell) didn't put any effort into getting either SD1 or SD2 on board with it.

Neither bug tracking systems nor version control commit logs are the appropriate place to:

     - Gossip about other people
     - Discuss lunch plans
     - Argue over if something should or shouldn't be fixed

This is especially true if the two parties actually sit close together or work at the same company.

Doing any of the above risks being made fun of on public discussion boards.

    Nor to discuss relationships.

  • Do you like movies about gladiators?

Male announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone.
Female announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone.

Female announcer: No, the white zone is for loading. Now, there is no stopping in a RED zone.
Male announcer: The red zone has always been for loading.
Female announcer: Don't you tell me which zone is for loading, and which zone is for unloading.
Male announcer: Look Betty, don't start up with your white zone shit again. There's just no stopping in a white zone.

  • When I was working at [large software company] I saw this kind of thing ALL the time in bugs, especially between developers in different groups. In fact, this is very tame IME.
