The Blakes 7 Opinion Topic (by demand of nobody)

Blakes 7 is so much better than Doctor Who. Discuss.
-
I'd like Blakes 7 if Blake wasn't such a fucking doofus. Like in that episode where he refused to admit he's color blind, leading him to be impregnated by the green succubus-like alien. In contrast, Doctor Who sometimes goofs off during surgery, but is otherwise on the mark.

(I haven't actually watched either show, just wanted to participate)

Blake is kind of a doofus on purpose, to contrast him with Avon. Especially after they killed-off Gan. (OH NOES 30-YEAR OLD SPOILERS!!!) And double-especially in the run-up to the attack on Star One, where he's shown as criminally irresponsible.
Of course Gan was only nice because they literally put a chip in his brain to make him nice. A plot Deep Space 9 totally ripped-off in the 90s, I MIGHT MENTION. (Also Earth 2. But I mightn't mention Earth 2, because oh boy that show was shit.)

YOU TRICKED ME!

BTW as far as "power trios" goes, Blake, Avon, Vila beats Kirk, McCoy, Spock any fucking day of the week and twice on Sundays.

This wasn't clue enough?
Wait, does that mean I hit the mark with color-blind impregnation?

They're no Pierce, McIntyre and Blake.
-
I have no idea what any of this stuff is.
-
AFAICT, we've talked about two different Blakes, so 5 to go? I have a cousin named Blake, if that helps.
-
I know a Blake in Missouri, does that count?
-
No, Missouri is not a real place. It's a fantasy-land inhabited by elves.
-
Robert Blake - Baretta.

I remember playing this as a kid. I actually thought it was a Blake's 7 game until I tried to find it on Google earlier and Google eventually corrected my memory.

I have it on the best authority[1] Janet Fielding, who played Tegan on Doctor Who, thinks Blake's 7 sucks.
[1] I know because I asked her what she thought of it at a convention once. If she still goes to them, ask her to do the Mara laugh.

The bad things about Blake's 7 (e.g.special effects, costumes, some of the plots, some of the acting) were so bad they were good and the good things (e.g. characters, some of the plots, Paul Darrow's acting) were just superb.
Of all people, we should appreciate the representation of computers as key characters in the series and with personalities that were extensions of their programmers'. That was way ahead of its time.

I loved the episode where the dangerous alien-of-the-hour was, quite literally, a painted rock.

Yesss and all basically opposite the pre-existing images of computers. None of them were outright evil, but all of them were unhelpful and annoying in various ways.
Zen spent most of his time not fully under control of the crew, and would occasionally just stop accepting commands, or shut down parts of the ship without telling anybody, or go to a destination for no reason they could discern. So he's like iOS.
Orac was a super-computer who had a terrible user interface. And in fact, he hated actually being used by people, he just wanted to sit around in "sleep mode" all the time and got irritated when someone turned him on with the remote. So Orac's Linux.
And then there was Slave, who was slow and dumb as rocks compared to both Zen and Orac. But he always did what he was told. So it's Windows, I guess? Yay metaphors.

I think I know the one. Moloch was I think my favourite:

If windows was as deferential as Slave then I would be more forgiving of its .. foibles.
@Slave said:Master, my humble apologies for interrupting your noble thoughts. Some inferior person is attempting to communicate...
All dialogs should begin with that sentence imo.

Janet Fielding appeared in an episode of the Adventure Game so she must know a thing or two about sucking.

Eh, it was pretty funny, she got all ranty. Apparently Star Trek super-sucks. I didn't have the heart to tell her she was holding a Star Trek poster I'd loaned her as a prop a few minutes earlier.

Heck, they're not even Devon, Garth and Rachel.
