Mark: Manager of Marketing Business Unit B / Graphic Designer

Candace: Part Time Graphic Designer

James: One underpaid web developer

[The great idea]

Candace: “Hey everyone I just picked up a new XBOX 360 for a contest that Joe wants to have. We are going to give it away at the Microsoft Vista launch . All we have to do is build a contest form on the website.”

James: “Ok I will create a simple contest system for our public internet site.

[In the afternoon]

Mark: “Wow… that is a great idea why don’t we do that with a PS3 to generate some more leads for business unit B”

James: “hmm. I guess I can make a generic contest system, complete with reports and everything. That shouldn’t be too hard. I’ll have it done in two days just send me the images and the contest rules. ”

[The next day]

Mark: “Here are all the images and text you requested James”

James: “Thanks. Give me a bit and I’ll have the contest form done!”

[Development complete]

James: “Here you go the contest system is complete. Please test it”

Mark: “The contest works well. Lets start to get some leads. I already picked up the PS3 system. “

[PS3 contest launches and is a great success]

James: “Hey Candace, do you have the images done yet for the contest form?”

Candace: “Yeah but I’m still waiting for approval from Joe”

James: “Ok I have made a copy of the PS3 contest and put them in the XBOX360 folder. All you have to do is replace the images and let me know if you want to capture any extra data”

Candace: ”This is great work. Thanks James!”

[3 days later]

[THE MICROSOFT VISTA LAUNCH CONVENTION]

Joe: “Welcome everyone we are having a contest where you can win an XBOX 360 all you have to do is go to this link “

Everyone: “WOW we can win a PS3!”

Yes,

They never even managed the project or checked to see if it was working before instructing everyone to visit the website.

Furthermore as a MS gold certified partner that was very politically incorrect :)
