Discourse: White Page Of Death
-
So, since currently EVERYTIME I open a topic I get a White Page Of Death I want to at least have some fun with it.
How about we try to come up with the most obstruse, complex, impossible and still almost plausible reason for those to happen. (Don't you dare come at this with your "Not enough Memory")
If this has been done in the one thread already, .... then screw that one and do it again here!
Filed Under: Pretty sure Aliens are involved somehow!

What browser and OS are you on? I am using IE11 on Win7, and I have only had it happen a handful of times. Is there a specific repo I have not noticed?
-
Discourse's server responses all must be manually approved by a chimp. On occasion, the chimp rejects the response. In those situations, a blank page is served to the client.
-
Using the ChromeOpera (24) on a Windows 7.
The White pages started occuring more frequently about an hour ago.
Repro is probably: open a lot of topics to increase your chance to see the White Page Of Death.
Maybe having mediocre internet also helps.... I dunno.Since people start reporting bugs with WPOD as basis, I assumed I was not the only one with the problem.

Does the chimp house inside the TDWTF-server or is homecalling involved?Filed Under: At least Discourse didn't eat any post of me, yet
-
I've had sporadic WSODs this evening (in spite of not having had any earlier when others were), no particular topics (even had some on the main page), Chrome 38, Win7.
-
Does the chimp house inside the TDWTF-server or is homecalling involved?
In order to make the process as black-box as possible, homecalling would be involved. CDCK would not want customers to know that the software relies so heavily on chimps.
-
That would explain the discournsistencies! Behavior is dependent on the chimp handling your request.
-
Okay, I'll just go to sleep and hope everything resolves in time...It's late enough for that, anyway.

but I am not really sure where the Ninjas come into play in this theory and how the white house is involved!
So.... while this tab was open, I got notifications and the green box changed. But Discourse would not let me scroll down anymore. This is the first time this happened. I am going to pin it on the WOPD.
-
Killer ninja coding monkeys do exist.
-
I think IE just must put up its own error message because middle-clicking down the topic lists produces about a 1/3 chance of getting IE's HTTP 500 page for me.
-
Perhaps, Discourse 2.0 can employ them.
-
not much better than white page, honestly
Filed Under: At least you get an error, I guess
-
CDCK couldn't afford me.
-
Are you a confirmed monkey now?
Just because the dog turned out to be female doesn't mean you gotta change your bot-like-behaviour!Filed Under: We like you just the way you are | Does @royal_poet know?
-
Are you in Dallas? WPoD is a symptom of Ebola.
-
I'm not a dog but I might be a code monkey.
<insert obligatory Jonathan Coulton link>
-
Have you heard of Ask Me Another?
-
Have had it on whatever the latest Android Chrome is and the latest 64bit desktop Chrome.
@sam I actually had this on meta.d yesterday too.
-
but I am not really sure where the Ninjas come into play in this theory and how the white house is involved!
Plot twist: The chimps are trained ninjas. This way they can hide from anyone who stumbles upon their location, and kill if necessary.
Unknown how the white house factors in. Unless ...
Nope. The house I thought of is more gray.
-
So we're pretending @Sam doesn't know what's causing it?
-
Did you read the OP?
-
Yes, but it doesn't change my question because the premise of the topic would change
-
My understanding of the topic is that we are proposing preposterous causes for the issue, regardless of what is happening else-forum. Right, @Kuro?
-
In here we discuss nothing but the Truth!
In fact, how do we know Sam doesn't train these Ninja-monkeys to seel the later for big profit? To deny his involvement weould be foolish!
Filed Under: No matter how gruesome and unbelievable the Truth may be!

ninja-monkeys
Point of contention: my theory involved ninja-chimps. Chimpanzees are apes, not monkeys, as evidenced by their lack of tail.
-
Chimpanzees are apes, not monkeys, as evidenced by their lack of tail.
Distinction without a difference.
-
You want more differences?
- Monkeys cannot swing between branches. Apes can. This is due to a difference in shoulder structure.
- Monkeys do not use tools. Apes may use tools. Chimps are well known for this.
- Monkeys are built primarily for life in trees. Apes are built for a life in trees and on the ground.
-
Eh...I dunno...I remember seeing something in the last few months saying all that stuff wasn't as consistent as you're saying. But whiskey and whatever is preventing me from finding it.

Monkeys are TRWTF

Yes, there are some exceptions. There usually are. As for evidence:
- Branch swinging:
Brachiation is a rare ability for primates. ... Among the monkeys, only a few New World species have the capability, and they don't use it as frequently as the gibbons [a lesser ape]. All of the great apes have the anatomical characteristics that allow brachiation, but most of them rarely use this mode of locomotion because they are too heavy to be supported by small branches.1
-
Tool use: I apparently mis-remembered on this one. Forget it.
-
Primary life:1 2 From what I can find, most monkeys are indeed primarily arboreal, and most apes are primarily terrestrial. There are a few counter examples, such as the baboon, which is a largely terrestrial monkey, and the gibbons, which is a largely arboreal ape.
Monkeys are TRWTF
It appears that the monkeys mainly get through trees by walking on top of the branches, instead of swinging under them.

The whatever is also whiskey.
