14.9 != 14.4

So I turn on the computer, and Raptr, the silly clone of GeForce Experience, tells me the 14.9 Catalyst (AMD) drivers are available, "click here." I click--it takes me to the 14.4 drivers that were released in April.
Bonus WTF: they displayed a URL instead of a clickable link.

TRWTF is a graphics driver utility that messes with your games settings.
-
welcome to the total WTF that are graphics drivers.
they are ALL that bad.

They must use DiscoRounding™.

TRWTF is graphics driver updates based on fixing blockbuster videogame graphics.
I wonder if it's that the game is buggy and they're patching the driver to workaround this, or that the graphics driver is buggy and they're only fixing bugs uncovered by blockbusters.
(From my very limited (and very painful) opengl/directx experience, I'm assuming the latter)

it's actually probably a little from column
A
and a little from column2
the graphics drivers probably patch behavior for games that expect the unbroken behavior and leave it unpatched for games that do their own workarounds.
for extra fun rename the binaries for recent AAA games and see how performance/behavior changes... no, really, try it.
ouch....

The fact that drivers cheat for benchmarks (including games) is well-known and has been going on forever.
What's sad, frankly, is that the driver makers (that loosely includes, say, Samsung, who does this on their phones) are STILL simplistically looking at the executable name, so their scamming is easily detected.

and Raptr, the silly clone of GeForce Experience
Raptr is a clone of Xfire.
GeForce Experience is a wee tot by comparison.

Do I look like I care?
Raptr, by which I mean the AMD thing, was offered to me long after the other application was offered to me.

DiscoRouting™
FTFY, since A) wrong version when reaching web site, B) display URL instead of link.

I recently updated GeForce Experience because it told me to. It messed up a bunch of DX9 games. I finally uninstalled it but my computer has been BSOD'ing (with a different problem each time) since.
Luckily I've been planning on replacing my SSDs and reinstalling the OS. Of course, since it's Windows 8 (I had the original Win7 upgrade) I'll have to install 2 years worth of updates afterwards because I'm not allowed to install Windows 8.1 from the get-go using the same key. But that's a whole other WTF.

QFT. It seems that graphics (esp 3D) still hasn't succumbed fully to the rules of Common Sense Programming:
- Make it work
- Profile
- Make it fast
(And I'm not implicating any vendor in particular here; heck, I could link you a truly brutal X11 crash bug in their Bresenham implementation...)
