- Managed to cut himself severely enough (while cutting cables) that he required hospitalization
... I have to say the air traffic control guys did a pretty good job of restoring functionality after deliberate sabotage, though. Sure it's bad, but it could have been so much worse if their disaster plan hadn't considered crazy people who hate sunshine and leis.

JeanAnders is an idiot[1]. If an airport closes, planes stack up and cause delays. Nothing you can do about that. Even if you had diversion plans for all the airports in the world, think about all the people who are already at the affected airport and will lose their connections, not to mention the people who now have to make arrangements to get from wherever they were diverted to, back to the closed airport, and/or deal with their own sets of connections.
[1] Not really, but she clearly hasn't thought about how you would "fix" this problem.

To a point, she's right, which is the worst part: the hub system is a serious WTF, and doesn't meet the passengers' needs, only the aiports, and then, barely so. But a more distributed system has an entirely different set of problems.

And some airlines try more distributed stuff on occasion and it always fails. Or at least doesn't scale. Not at what people are able / willing to pay.
