Dead space in topic titles
-
paging @matches.
With multiline topics there is a small dead space between the first and second line of the topic title that does nothing when you click on it.
right there where the red lines are. you'll know you are on it when the mouse cursor changes to a pointer from a finger.
Yeah, i know it's a minor one, and it's display only... but i really wanted to be in the "i found a discourse bug" club.
-
Somehow I ALWAYS manage to tap on that deadspace when I'm on my tablet.
-
you too? it gets me on my tablet too, but it wasn't till i happened to catch it on the desktop that i figured out why.... only the text is a link, the containing div isn't

only the text is a link, the containing div isn't
There is no containing div. It's a straight link in a table cell, with a div before and a span afterwards. And, for some reason, a ::before and ::after that are blank content and set to "display:table".
Here'd be a hopefully simple and not prone to side effects CSS fix:
.topic-list .main-link { line-height: 1em; }
Hrm, that fix minimizes, but doesn't remove the possibility of it happening. For me, it just made the line where it isn't the pointer a lot narrower, but it's still there.

New blue bubble I think.More words required.
I believe the new post blue bubble indicator is causing the shift. The text appears to not be in line with the size of the blue bubble, which is forcing extra space around the text that is dead. If the blue circle were smaller (IE: in line with the text) I don't believe the dead space would be there.
I don't know if this is a result of custom CSS from here or not.
-
I get the issue on topics that don't have the new post indicator, and I also can see the issue on meta.d, where I don't have any custom styles applying.
-
Setting the
a
todisplay: block
(or any block-like type) makes the whole thing clickable without any dead space, but the unread count gets pushed onto its own line. If the bubble was inside thea
element I think everything would work out.
-
float the bubble!
or the block!
i just wanted to see things float!
The topic titles should have the spoiler class.
I've even caught that space when on my phone.

It gets me quite often on my computer.
it's a finger seeking space!
And a mouse pointer seeking one, as well.
-
And of course this is our fault because normal sites don't have titles so long?
-
-
-
-
It is caused by this css rule:
.topic-list th, .topic-list td { line-height: 1.25; }
Disable it and the dead space is gone.

CSS!!!!!! CURSE YOU AND YOUR NEFARIOUS WAYS!

it's not so much a begiining tag as a gradual build up to the end tag where rage leveld return to
DEFCON 5

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here.
On the one hand, you could be ignoring my pathetic attempt to verbally abuse meta.d, because clearly no other forum would have long titles and it MUST BE JUST US BEING SPECIAL.
Or it could be that meta.d is also special in a different way - in TDWTF's case, long titles are trolling, in meta.d's case long titles are because they're using it as an edge case (as a bug tracker)
Or it could be that Discourse is simply chock full of buggy goodness.
Which is it?
-
Something that happens because you're using software in a primary way isn't an edge case. Quit talking like Jeff.
-
That's what I'm trying to get at... would Jeff consider this to be an edge case that real forums NEVER get to?
(I know full well that long titles very much do happen despite the intent of the designer to any contrary position)
-
Just showing an example of my second most frequented discourse install having long titles. I think it's normal to have longish titles after a while. That's just people being people.
I didn't really have much more deeper intentions than that.

I vote for the last option.
