Mobile view can't change watch list
-
There is no watching button on mobile view so I switched to desktop view and got this. ..
There's also no way to get back to mobile view without knowing the secret code mobile_view=1 in the url bar.
Can the mobile view please get some love? Also desktop view on mobile is beyond utterly broken, so the missing mobile features make discourse extremely hard.
-
Here's a workaround: If (in Chrome for Android) you go to Settings (under physical menu or 3 dot button menu) > Accessibility > Force enable zoom, it'll let you zoom out enough to get to the Discourse menu and choose that option again (though it'll be tiny, because you have to be zoomed out).
Desktop mode should be fixed to not need that workaround on mobile devices.
-
No repro, Samsung Galaxy s4 doesn't appear to have that option.
-
It should be in the Chrome Settings menu. Sorry, I should've been more clear.

Repro found

How do you Zoom out for monster dialog boxes? It only Zooms in lol
-
What dialog are you referring to? The zoom override may not be good enough for some of the things.
I see Edit History goes off the side (same as on Mobile View in general). You can't zoom it out, you have to scroll horizontally for that one.
-
See op
Also, using Mobile view =1 removed desktop view from the options menu
-
Discosauce isn't letting me side scroll, regardless of zoom setting. It's just stuck.
-
[Category watching button]
Try landscape? Yeah, it's not designed for desktop view on mobile in portrait. It's got a fixed width of 550px.
-
isn't letting me side scroll
Yeah, that dropdown doesn't cause the page to "overflow", so you can't scroll. Some of the dialogs do (like the Edit History).

I find it hard to believe how broken discourse Mobile view of desktop is. Most sites work without any extra effort at all, they just tend to be a bit zoomed out.
-
they just tend to be a bit zoomed out
Here's the problem:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, minimum-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no">
They intentionally disable zooming on mobile devices (for both mobile and desktop view) and limit the width to the device width. That's slightly excusable for your actual mobile view, but never for your desktop view.
I may be slightly to blame because I brought up limiting the zoom as an option when it was originally unlocked and people would zoom on their mobile device in mobile view in enough that the top bar would wrap and cover the whole screen.
-
Chrome straight up ignores zoom locking on desktop.
-
You mean Chrome on desktops? Every desktop browser ignores the "viewport" meta tag, it's meant specifically for mobile devices only.
Or do you mean Chrome for Android when you have "Request Desktop site" selected?
-
I mistook you saying they were trying to limit desktop Zoom.
-
Ah, yeah, I meant in those modes on mobile devices.
Yet another point where the terms can be confused.
-
mobile_view=1
The modern trend seems to be going away from things like
m.
in the url, and towards responsive design that automatically picks the best layout. This somehow manages to be wrong in both paradigms.

Can the mobile view please get some love?
The thing that annoys me about mobile view the most is the lack of any "in reply to" indicator so the context of a reply is often a pain to work out.
-
How about the lack of FULL QUOTING
