My localhost is your localhost! .... or not

  • So I was searching Google Homepage content and I found this:

    How to make a todo list program with Rails 0.9 (out of date) |
    <font size="-1">I’ve chosen to show the creation of a rather simple TODO list program, because it’s short, easy and can be useful. I’ll be using Rails version 0.9.1, ...
    <font color="#008000">http://127.0.0.1:15101/syndicate/rss/feed.xml</font>

    </font><font size="-1"> Add to homepage</font>

    I don't think anybody actually uses this, sadly (because it's impossible to).  Classic mistake.  And still funny.

    I can just see the response of the original author: "but it works on my machine..."

  • My home city's public transportation system site has a few dozen links to bus schedules using the file:// notation.

  • Ever taken a look at the html source code on a overclockers.co.uk product list?

    <!-- NavigationItem HTML begin -->
    <!-- This file is used to build the navigation item markup. -->
    <TD ALIGN=CENTER VALIGN=BOTTOM>
    <Actinic:TEMPLATE type="begin" filename="C:\Program Files\Actinic Ecommerce v6\Sites\Site1\Act_NavigationItem.html"/>

        <A href="search.html" PROTOCOL="HTTP:" TARGET="_self" onMouseOver="SwapImage('hnav_search','search8.gif')" onMouseOut="RestoreImage()"><Actinic:TEMPLATE type="begin" filename="C:\Program Files\Actinic Ecommerce v6\Sites\Site1\Act_NavigationImage.html"/>
    <!-- NavigationImage HTML begin -->

    There's a few lecturers that link to file:// in the online course material for some of my classes at the university I attend. Computer science lecturers. :(
