Vista, XP edition

  • At first I thought it must be because it was for an upgrade from XP but then see the link below for 'Upgrade'. My guess is they are required to choose a platform when creating a new software product and haven't created the 'Vista' option yet.

[/quote]Well that would be even worse, putting you in a Catch 22 situation. "You need to be running Vista to install Vista".

What's wrong with a good old fashioned "N/A"?

Especially since the same issue should apply to every OS...

    e.g.http://www.amazon.com/Ubuntu-6-06-DVD-Jewel-Case/dp/B000G62IDU

    The OS *is* the platform.

Not neccessarily - It says 'Platform', of which 'Vista' would be correctly. It doesn't say that you need to be running 'Vista' to install, that information would probably be under the 'System Requirements' area and there the 'OS' requirement could say 'N/A'.

  • True, but either way, it gives you no meaningful information to state that the platform for Vista is Vista (in the sme way that adding "powered by: gas" to a product called "gas powered bbq" is pointless).

Still, even pointless is better than misleading and inaccurate (Platform: Windows XP).

  • Maybe they're expecting it to be run in a virtual machine?

The real WTF here why they think they can sell CDs that you can get mailed to you for free through Shipit: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

  • No, the real WTF here is Vista.

(Don't mind me, I've just spent the past day testing our software under Vista.  Ask me sometime about the incredible vanishing files, or the upgrade that shouldn't have worked, or the one-third of a help file, or....)
