Permanent overwrite of mouse pointer

Continuing the discussion from Thanks for the Discourse V1 brownies!:
Hey, look what showed up at Discourse World Headquarters (aka my house) today!

(We are a distributed team, with members in France, Australia, Canada, India..)
What a nice gesture. Thanks everyone!
I know the relationship has been ... rocky ... and we don't always agree on everything.
But I hope you can see through our relentless improvements to Discourse that we really do care about building a great open source online discussion tool, available completely for free to every community in the world.
Zooming in on an image, then pressing back (or in my case, using mouse button 4's back functionality) while the zoom out (magnifier with a - sign) is the pointer causes the pointer to permanently change whilst on discourse.

They forgot to sanitize the cake. Typical.
-
Pretty sure that's been reported before, but DiscoSearchÂÂâ„¢. I know I've seen it.
-

I wonder if he is brave/dumb enough to actually try eating a food claiming to be from us. I mean it's actually going to be from @apapadimoulis, but based on how people talk about him I know I wouldn't try them if the roles were reversed.
-
Not just this - this also happens if you middle mouse click and use mouse4 to go back.
Only fix is ctrl+f5
-
What?
I can understand Ctrl+R or F5, but Ctrl+F5?
-
Some browsers treat Ctrl-R as hard refresh, others Ctrl-F5 as hard refresh.
-
Why do you need hard refresh? And no browser uses Ctrl+R as hard refresh as far as I know. You might be thinking of Ctrl+Shift+R.

How I read Jeff's post
@codlnghorror said:But I hope you can see through our relentless fucking with Discourse's UX that we really don't care about anything other than hipster design, but thanks for the cakes anyway. Om nom nom.
Personally, I'd have sent brownies laced with laxatives

It came with a matching, printed card. You can order those things online. I don't think that whoever sent it actually bought the box, wrapped it and then went to the post office to send it off.

I'd have thought you would send him a little visit from those nice folks at the DEA…
-
I'm only a fucking cunt, not a total cunting shithead.
-
Because I might be doing things related to testing caching on a web application and want to be able to selectively test certain requests between caching and not caching.

@eviltrout says this is fixed in master, please reopen if it is not.
-
Reopening, this still happens.
Repro:
- Open an image so that it opens the lightbox
- click the image to force a zoom in
- middle mouse click to change to scroll mode (for example, looking at said large image)
- use mouse button 4 to navigate back
- click away on the screen to clear the directional scroll
- Get a magnifying glass that won't go away.
-
Huge image for testing:
