W32.Looked.P Infection

  • Today in my inbox:

Early today a new virus was detected on the Company network. bla bla bla...

Company IT is now deleting all Email messages with one of the following subjects:

    • <font face="Arial">Good Day</font>
    • <font face="Arial">Server Report </font>
    • <font face="Arial">Hello</font>
    • <font face="Arial">Picture</font>
    • <font face="Arial">Status</font>
    • <font face="Arial">Test</font>
    • <font face="Arial">Error</font>
    • <font face="Arial">Mail Delivery System</font>
    • <font face="Arial">Mail Transaction Failed</font>
    • <font face="Arial" style="font-weight: normal">Mail server report </font>

Now that I know, that we have a very proficient IT Security Team I don't have to worry about opening any suspicious email as some of my co-workers managed to do.

  • I have a suggestion for your IT company.

Why not delete all messages with in the subject "e"?

  • because that wouldn't cover "Good Day" or "status".

  • I was trying to email my wife about locking in our mortgage.

I got an email saying the message was not sent out by our server because it had the word "mortgage" in it.

Spam filters seem to be quite effective at blocking legitimate emails. Not so good with spam however.

I suggest chopping up a large GIF into smaller ones, trying to ineffectively reassemble them with an HTML table, and asking your wife if she wants a bigger penis. Those always seem to get through my spam filter, anyway.

Did you try "Mort.gage", or some other derivative?

It's sad when legitimate users have to resort to using spammer techniques to get emails through the most anal of spam filter/sysadmin combinations.

  • The Decency Filter where I work will warn if you try sending the full text of the bible (KJV). It flags the words "ass" and "piss".

/the smithing goes through just fine

  • The real WTF is that your company still uses email. :)~

  • <font face="tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">They should just check the subject and delete items containing <SPAM> or <VIRUS>...

<font face="tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Then I suppose legitimate users send all those 30 "MORTeolGAGE" and "PHARwzoMACY" mails that has been filling my web mail inbox recently...
