Pre-Poll Discourse Equivalent WTFs
-
I think we've all misjudged @apapadimoulis, Esq, MD, FACS, MBA, eMBA. Clearly, he wanted to go for the full WTF experience by participating in one. The real question is...what TDWTF WTFs are of similar magnitude to Discourse?
I'd just make a poll, but poll editing limitations mean that we need to assemble a list first, so we can do it here as a wiki before the poll:
- Lotus Notes
- MUMPS
- Oracle
- WTF_NOT_FOUND
- Paula Bean (just barely, though)
- Hanzo
- FILE_NOT_FOUND
- Olympiad of Misguided Geeks
-
Oracle?

You've raised the bar pretty high here. What about SSDS?
-
Anything Swampy-related surely should have been on the list.
-
Discourse still isn't even in the same neighborhood of Lotus Notes.
EDIT: although now that I think about it, Atwood and Ray Ozzie have a lot in common.

So maybe a better poll would be to find a WTF of equivalent magnitude?
-
MFD?
Body is invalid; try to be a little more descriptive
-
Erik Gern's writing?
-

They are both your brother?

Yeah. Case in point...$workplace updated to Notes 9 recently, and now Notes has taken to dying of heap corruption every so often when you drag and drop an attachment from the preview pane. Seriously guys: how incompetent do you have to be to smash your own heap in such a terrible way that OLE dies down the road because of it?
Discourse is newfangled, and still buggy, and has some rather overcomplicated plumbing going on, and has a few truly terrible parts (I'd rip out the regex soup parser at the first chance I got). But, it still pales compared to some of the horrors that lurk out there...
Also, @blakeyrat, ever seen MFC die trying to access freed memory that was its window handle map while trying to pop up an assertion failure dialog box? I sure have...(I've also seen a CDBException that somehow had a completely invalid error message string inside it, which also made for a lovely access violation to debug.)

Probably? I don't fucking know.
-
Jeff is definitely like Bert Glanstrom.
-
Paula Bean (just barely, though)
The original one, or the reincarnated one on here who forgets to take her meds from time to time?

I suppose they meant the original. The reincarnated version should be @PaulaBean.
-
"Worse Than Failure"?

@pjh how does @apapadimoulis have 2^7 badge? I think you're script is bunk.
-
-
-
I'm confused, but then again, I'm outta here in about 5 minutes.
-
Edit: PJH - corrected post count.
@pjh how does @apapadimoulis have 2^7 badge? I think you're script is bunk.
He has
345177 posts to his name, so I see no reason why at least 128 of them shouldn't be eligible - myscriptSQL query seems fine TYVM...
-
I'm completely confused as to what a Post is versus what a Reply is.
I thought that a Reply was a type of Post, but @apapadimoulis has more Replies than Posts, so that's obviously not the case.
-
Ah - didn't consider that. What I think:Post™: The first post in a topic.
Reply™: Any post that isn't the first in a topicBoth are, I hope, considered (little-p) posts (under most circumstances) for the purposes of the 2^n badges.Ugh. Scrub that. @HardwareGeek's reply below makes more sense...
-
I am assuming Replies as shown on one's profile. That is the number/list of replies to one, not by one.

Ahhh, so @PJH misspoke when he said that @apapadimoulis has 345 posts, he only has 177. And I saw that @PJH just corrected that.

It's getting late for me (0040 local). That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it...

Are you the queen?

In your profile, replies are replies directed to you (I think).
Posts are posts you have made.
Edit: As also described by @HardwareGeek

No, I was simply making the statement generic. @chubertdev was asking about someone else's posts/replies, so "you" was not appropriate, but I did not want to limit the reply to @apapadimoulis's posts/replies, since the statement applies to all users. Therefore, "one" is a suitable word for indicating this.

Understood, ma'am.

I don't blame you for getting it wrong, what with the war and all.

Been at the weed again?
No, but I really should. I mowed the lawn, but some of the weeds are getting out of hand.

Don't mention the war!

As long as the kids stay off...

The kids don't bother me so much. People who walk their dogs, on the other hand...
