Poll: The new 2^n Badges
-
Continuing the discussion from The new 2^n Badges:
TBH. I like. Others may not. YMMV, IMO, WTF BBQ.
Should the new 2^n badges be
- A collectable set, where once you've achieved
2^0
,2^1
,2^2
, you get to keep them for life - A tradable badge whereby you hand in your
2^n
badge to get your newly minted2^(n+1)
badge when it applies - Don't care
- BADGE_NOT_FOUND
I know that collecting the whole set (well from
n<=0<=currently applicable
) appeals to some of the CDO types in here, but alternatively, for others, so would not having 2^(n-1) hanging around when 2^n serves to represent all the badges from 2^0 to 2^(n-1).Note also that having so many badges (the first option) may mean cluttering/filling (depending on POV) up your badges page:
and your Title Selection options:
- A collectable set, where once you've achieved
-
I think they should trade in. No one wants to brag about their Geo Metro once they finally work their way up to a Maserati.
-
I quite like having the entire collection thus far, but it's hardly going to bother me if I don't.
The only issue I can see is if someone has something like 2^10 as their title and then rolls over to 2^11 and boo-frickedy-hoo they have to change it manually. But other than that... whatever.
-
Well one minute in and we're already 0-4-1-0 votes...
-
Ooo...I want a tit.

Empirical (past) evidence would suggest that a bug exists and they'd retain the old n-1 title while not having the n-1 badge.
Extrapolating this, yes, ex-leaders probably retain their Leader title...
-
'scuse me?
Edit: Oh - the screenshot. Rather unfortunate...
-
but why would Discourse do such a thing? That's stupid.
Oh wait. This is Discourse. Carry on.
-
o_O @locallunatic.
-
Sorry, hit the close button that was right next to show results. PEBKAC.
-
Obviously a great design (by the plugin maker) to put those buttons right next to each other.
-
Uh-huh...
-
I voted "Don't care." Either tradable or not would be fine with me, if the set could be ordered sensibly on one's badge page. With the current random jumble of badges, I'd go with tradable, but I wouldn't be upset either way.
-
Here:
.poll-ui > button:last-of-type { float: right; } .poll-ui > button:first-of-type { float: none; }
First line makes it so the close button is on the far right for leaders, second line is to fix it for non-leaders.
The buttons themselves are just plain, so that's the best selector I can get. Works on closed polls, too.

-
Yeah, I had to look for a closed poll to check it. A single use case for wanting to search by topics alphabetically (because I didn't want to mess with the poll just to check).
-
I'm using 2^0 as my title before you take it away from me.
And what's up with the space between the ^ and the 0?

Exactly what you'd expect, oddly enough.
-
I certainly didn't expect it...
-
You didn't expect Discourse to break?
-
Cos I'm bored and think I should go to bed, how things stand at the moment:
-
No, I expected it to break, just not that way.
-
This should totally be part of the poll plugin.
-
I wanna trade my badge in for some cooler badge. Not sure wich one but I want it and I want it now!
-
Well you know who to ask...
