FAQ Reader Badge
-
What's the deal with this badge? I've read every topic in the Meta/FAQ category, plus the stuff linked from the menu.
-
It looks like it's FAQqued.
-
also, when do I get to be a leader?
-

There was an FAQ that came with the Discourse installation, but it didn't contain any questions or answers (naturally), so @PJH created a topic for it and used some redirection trickery to point the FAQ link to it. I don't know if it's possible to view the original FAQ now.
-
I read that when it was available, and was among the first to point out that the default FAQ did not contain a single question.
-
I guess that the badge system wasn't active when the FAQ was available? I do wonder how some people have earned the badge though.
-
That's kind of my guess. Like...we need a rake task to re-bake...or whatever is the correct hepcat RoR lingo these kids use.

You can't have. Or you skipped it because the standard badges are boring...

I had nothing to do with all that bollocks with the FAQ™ stuff - except perhaps contributing an edit or two to the wiki post.
The redirection/creation of the wiki to begin with was IIRC @Sam's doing.

It wasn't. Well active yes. In Your Face, no. And the Reader badge was added later (even after Meta/FAQs).
-
Any idea how some people have acquired the badge?

Any idea how some people have acquired the badge?
When the check is run daily, they have one topic that is at least 100 (I presume visible) posts long, and the system has registered the fact that they've 'seen' every (again, visible) post.

I track every topic as soon as it's created. What did I miss? No new or unread posts in there:
-
Are we talking at cross purposes? I mean this badge.
-
What did I miss? No new or unread posts in there:
The fact that most of those topics are single posts that are edited, (rather than posts added to indicate changes.)
-

Oh - yes - we are. No idea how those that have that one actually managed to get it.
Should really get round to disabling that one, but can (should) only do it if I can get a reasonable replacement sorted.
-

Especially as recently as 24th July. I call hax.
-
Ok - ignore everything I've posted here - I missed the bold, in caps, (and clearly invisible to me) "FAQ" that prepended the subject of this topic.
No idea how you get that one, and it's irrelevant to us anyway.
-
And the relevant config for that badge for the interested:
-
I think
/faq
got redirected at some point, but it pointed to the useless Discourse default FAQ before.I know I managed to reach it after the badges got introduced, but now it redirects to http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/tdwtf-forum-faq/370
-
but now it redirects
Which is why the badge is irrelevant - and why no-one should be able to attain the badge; no-one can get to the URL that the SQL in #20 is looking for.

Irrelevantly enraging, you mean.
I guess I went there before badges came on line here, because I definitely went there.

I'll disable it now.
Not sure how I'll replace it, if it even needs replacing...
Edit: Done. Link to the meta.d link added to Badges FAQ post to explain its disappearance.
-
I can't explain why, but this made me smile:
-
and why no-one should be able to attain the badge
UPDATE user_stats SET read_faq = 1, granted_at = NOW() WHERE user_id = :keithsUserId
-
I don't have access to run anything like that for that badge. No point now anyway - since it's disabled, you can't get to the badge page, see the badge on anyone who had one etc...
-
You know what encourages discourse? People talking about this pointless gamification bullshit.
-
Does people replying to people talking about pointless gamification bullshit also encourage discourse?
-
No, but it does help express their frustration with this stupid shitty forum that does everything wrong.

Let the healing begin.

It certainly appears to be...
It certainly has the opposite effect to simply ignoring the topics they don't like, instead of whining on them.
-
I'd love to ignore this but now I that I know how fucking broken it is, I can't use the "dismiss unread" button so I at least have to enter these fucking awful threads and see the first and last post before I can get it to disappear from my fucking list.
-
Look, you assholes want gamification? Here:
You find a forum. It gives you the ability to instantly communicate with anybody anywhere in the world. Maybe you want to share some programming tips. Maybe you want to get some advice from people who know more than you. Maybe you've always thought a certain way, and it's never been challenged. Maybe there's something important you forgot. Maybe you just want to brag about how smart you are. Maybe you just want to make a couple jokes.
So you come in here, and you engage with people, and you fucking upload your brain, your model of the universe here, and someone else comes by and downloads it, and both of you are better-off than you were before. Maybe you learned something. Maybe you laughed. Maybe you cried. Maybe you supported someone when they needed support. Maybe you were exposed to a culture you'd never been exposed to before. You've been engaged, you've been challenged, you've exercised that thing we like to call a "mind", the thing that makes you human.
That's the game. You did it. You got the power-up. You beat the boss. High score.
Now play again.
-
So... you want us to move to SO?
-
Was it something I said?
-
Look, you assholes want gamification?
I can take it or leave it. But if we're going to have it, it should work, is my point.
I'd love to ignore this but now I that I know how fucking broken it is, I can't use the "dismiss unread" button so I at least have to enter these fucking awful threads and see the first and last post before I can get it to disappear from my fucking list.
You should probably just mute the entire Meta category.
-

Awesome! Where's my badge?
-
-
-
^___^ /|* / \
Phew...I was worried about something nasty hiding behind a spoiler. Thanks for not doing that.
-
Can I get a "Muted FAQ Category" badge?
-
You earned a like. Keep at it and you'll get many more. Then you will feel better about your life and forget all this other nonsense.
-
The HECK??? I just went to http://what.thedailywtf.com/faq, which redirected to http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/tdwtf-forum-faq/370. Ok, but in that topic Dicksores opened an in-progress reply in the editor. That message is one I posted to the likes topic weeks ago, before we hit 10k. What? I can't even...
-
The FAQ says:
A: This site uses a new fangled concept called infinite scrolling. Love it or hate it, we've got it. It sucks and we're actively trying to fix it.
We are? Who's "we"? Is this still happening?
