The real WTF....

  • ...is that after more than 6 months the software that this forum uses
still won't allow you to create a printable page of a thread.

What's up with that? Am I the only one that tries to print threads for offline reading?

Forums do not program themselves. Us programmers do.

I have no interest in programming/maintaining this (not so good) forums software, but you are more than welcome to program such a feature. I will likely upgrade to the 1.2 platform when it comes out, but I have plenty of better things to do than battle with this software to try to make it print.

I don't expect YOU to program anything. I'd expect that the developers of the forum software  would provide a working feature. There IS a print button which leads me to believe that you can print a thread. However, every time you click print it reports something vague about an error being logged. What is the actual error? Is it a configuration problem?

I searched the forums and bug database of the developers site and could find nothing about a printing bug which leads me to believe that it is probably a local configuration problem.

If I was a .NET developer and had the keys to your castle, I'd just fix the damn thing. But since neither of those things are the case.....

  • Wouldn't be that hard to write software like this...
     * Cyresse ducks wrath of tempted fates

I mean, all you need is the ability to populate some templates from a database, and then add some gammy Javascript, and bingo! You're away.

I'll do it for $5 and a beer.

Oh wait... you want something better? That'll cost two beers.

Make sure it also properly supports RSS feeds. Thats part of the reason Alex chose this mess over something else. Oh! And it should be done in ASP.NET, not PHP, not PERL, and especially not HGMHPS.

  • Do you people realize that this forum software is open source?

  • Open source? Nice.

Oh, and the printable version? Looky here:

  • That just shows the problem of open-source code. Some projects are real beauties and very, very user-friendly. Yet this forum-software matches the topic of this website and is a daily WTF already if I would visit it daily. [:)]

  • So, from what I'm seeing here... the only way to insert an image is in IE, drag-n-drop?

Alex, didn't you KNOW that nine years later you'd upgrade to a different forum? What was WRONG with you in the past? I mean, I can easily read this entire thread and have knowledge of the future (being in the future). Why couldn't you back then? Disgraceful.

New pullquote for Discourse's marketing material!

    What's a page?

(Except instead of a finite roll, we need to hook the other end up to the output of a paper mill...)

  • Discourse is probably designed for line printers ...
