I was really excited to hear about his new album

Closing: DUPE

Huh. Well, not technically a dupe until the import happens.

I just can't stand his voice.

I love Weird Al, but I rarely recognize the songs he parodies any more.

Are you getting old then? e.g. do you recognise more or less than, say, half of the songs appearing in any of the results from
google("mashup 2014 youtube");
?
-
Are you getting old then?
Definitely.
o you recognise more or less than, say, half of the songs appearing in any of the results from google("mashup 2014 youtube");?
I'm sure it's much less than half. Life's too short to listen to music I don't like.

Anything that isn't young-people's music it appears... "it's all noise..."
That's what my wife says about most of the music I listen to and she's younger than me.
Admittedly, I have been listening to a fair amount of Lamb of God.
-
Which music do you like?
Mostly heavy metal or punk.

Since I still listen to the music I listened to as a kid, that's possibly somewhat true, but not really. Still, anything that uses autotune or where the singing sounds like whining is probably on my don't-listen-to list.

Crap, is heavy metal now classed as old person music? :(
EDIT: Also, why am I receiving the shocker?
-
Crap, is heavy metal now classed as old person music?
Probably no more than rock and roll.
-
I have a sort of reverse bucket list of bands I want to see in concert before they retire to the nursing homes and die.
Today's "heavy metal" is noise IMO. Chugga chugga COOKIE MONSTER SCREAM chugga COOKIE MONSTER SCREAM chugga chugga Gurgle Gurgle chugga chugga bass drums.

What are you talking about? That song is badass!
-
or where the singing sounds like whining
So Damnation isn't exactly your favourite Opeth?
-
What are you talking about? That song is bad
ass!FTFY. Actually could have done it this way instead:
What are you talking about? That song is
badass!Hmm, maybe TRWTF is two negative words somehow combine to make a positive one.
-
Crap, is heavy metal now classed as old person music?
No, you simply cannot kill the metal.
-
I've seen everyone on my music bucket list as best as I am able.
Iron Maiden - doing their 1980s classic stuff a few years ago
Queen - Brian and Roger on stage at the closing of We Will Rock You (London) playing out to Bohemian Rhapsody and The Show Must Go On
Abney Park
Meat Loaf before he got really too old to be still touringPlus various musicals
-
Hmm, maybe TRWTF is two negative words somehow combine to make a positive one.
Or two positive words combining make a negative phrase?
Yeah, right....

Bad For Good. Proper Steinman song.

Completely off topic, but I have no idea how to find the appropriate thread in which these things are being discussed:
When @ben_lubar imports all of the CS topics, are we going to lose our leader badges (and lounge access), or are they all going to be marked as read in some way?
-
-
Also, if anyone knows how to find that topic (without already knowing what its name is) please share the secret here. I tried searching for "import", but none of the results looked promising.
-
I'm finally going to see Judas Priest in October. The bucket list is finally starting to get short.

I'm finally going to see Judas Priest in October. The bucket list is finally starting to get short.
Oddly enough I updated my actual bucket list last night. It has stupid shit on it that really shouldn't be life affirming but I've been too afraid to live to make it happen.
Like 'learning to drive' is on there.

did you try
discourse_search("import @ben_lubar");
Or performing that search from his profile and checking the box...
-
Searching from his profile for "import" does indeed get me there. It would help if the search showed the context from the post though.
-
-
Okay, now what's the best way to find out if this question has already been answered in that topic without reading the whole thing? I tried doing a topic search for "leader" which didn't bring back any results, but I'm probably missing something.

I must say, I don't recall the topic of leadership coming up anywhere round here in relation to the import, and I try to read every post - even the HTML tag breakage ones and the Likes thread...
Honestly, given the current criteria, the most onerous one that's going to affect anyone is the attendance one (currently 50 out of past 100 days).
Providing @ben_lubar preserves timestamps on topic and post creation, then leaders won't (well, shouldn't) be affected.
The criteria regarding these are
- An absolute number of each read (200 topics, 300 posts) which will need to be manually changed after import. Probably.
- A (currently) quarter of all new posts and topics created in the past (rolling) 100 days.
Given that most of us have been around here for ~66 days, and there's been very few (compared to on here) new topics and posts in the past 100 days on CS, I don't think there's any danger of any current leaders getting demoted purely because of any import, and very little impact on anyone approaching the criteria for leader.
-

Ah, that makes sense or new members of an established forum would never be able to catch up.

Learn to fly instead.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has much to say on the subject of flying, and in particular that there is a knack to it which revolves around aiming for the ground and missing. That at the critical moment you can become distracted and not realise that you are, indeed, falling. And at that point, gravity will also not notice either.

I definitely didn't recognize the Fancy song that Tacky was based on...

This is possible if you haven't listened to any form of popular radio for the past months.

What is this "popular radio" of which you refer? I fiddle with the radio and obtain pink and brown noise from it.
-
I can't remember the last time that I even listened to the radio. I have a 16GB thumb drive with most of the music that I listen to, plus podcasts on my phone, and Pandora streaming through my phone as well.

Are you getting old then?
Getting or gotten, one of the two.
@PJH said:do you recognise more or less than, say, half of the songs appearing in any of the results from google("mashup 2014 youtube");?
I rather doubt I'd recognize any of them; most, I'd probably rather listen to Zippel Fagottisten.
Which music do you like?
Filed under: My bet's on Frank Sinatra.
My ex-wife's favorite. I like him too, but not as much; most of his songs are great for dancing.
My favorite, and when I was young the only thing I could stand to listen to, is classical. Yes, I had no friends when I was a kid. I can (just barely) remember hearing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan; I hated them.
I've seen everyone on my music bucket list as best as I am able.
Most of the people on my bucket list (if I had one) are dead. Many have been dead since long before I was born. What is this "popular radio" of which you refer?
Radio I know; I even support my local public radio station. "Popular," what does this word mean?
