Hacker WTF.

  • Source

Ok, so I figured this site must be pulling the proverbial so I sent them an email thanking them for the laugh. Alas, judging by the resposne, such was not the case.

    Apparantly:
"The most skilled hackers call themselves “Script Kiddies” because they
use Linux PHP scripts to do all their hacking. PHP is an obsolete
programming language that was based on an ammateur implementation of
    Microsoft’s ASP."

Now, a quick wiki search on both ASP and PHP says that PHP is two years older and why the hell would it be obsolete? But we'll leave those slight reality errors aside for the sake of argument.

Why the hell would someone use Linux and PHP to hack? PHP is not designed for such things? PERL works much better at system stuff, C works much better, hell bash scripts would be better.

  • I got as far as "=== we are blogging for freedom, god and george w. bush ===" before my brain shut down.

  • It's satire - there apparently used to be a page on the site explaining, but it's gone now for some reason.  Google will tell you more.

  • It's a joke. Not a particularly funny one, but a joke all the same.

  • "SSH (for breaking into remote computers), and Telnet (an older remote
hacking tool). All of these evil programs should be outlawed."
......and I thought Ted Stevens was outspoken over the series of tubes.

'There should be an “Internet drivers license“.'

Ehh, what can I say about this. Self immolation.

    And this image - http://www.shelleytherepublican.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/Hacker.jpg
should bag the Pulitzer. Bravo!! A hacker swatting a firefly?
    Nice parody.

The more idiot-proof software we make, Nature gets back at us with better idiots. Arrgh

  • I think I just wet myself laughing!

The site claims SSH and Telnet should be banned as hacker tools.

They even ask for the death penalty for hacking any commercial system!!

Not to mention claiming that Linux systems quickly become full of viruses and so should be banned in favour of Windoze!!!!!

I'd like to see what response you got.  This is obviously a joke.  Does anyone in their right mind take this seriously?  There's no IQ filter on the internet, unfortunately...

  • Shelley, at least according to the Wikipedia, claims it is not a satire.  Personally I think it sounds more like an attempt to make republicans look stupid (can't be too hard) but who knows.

  • I like their vision and insight when they noticed that Linux is the operating System that Bin Laden uses to make copies of Disney's DVDs

The real WTF is that this link actually works.

That's probably more likely, hence the claim of seriousness.  It's almost genius, if that's the case. Even the wikipedia article speaks of a rumoured disclaimer that once existed on the site...

  • As a conservative I must say that site is either a mildly amusing spoof, or written by one of the wackiest freaks ever.

    Wow, just wow.

  • She forgot to mention that those "Linux PHP" scripts run through a series of tubes.

  • I'm pretty sure whoever is running the site is just having fun and gets a kick out of people arguing whether it's serious or not.

Fact File: What is source code? Old computer programs
were distributed as source-code on magnetic tape. This is an obsolete
way to distribute software that was used before the availablity of the
more convenient “Binary” format. Even today, some programs (such as
those written by GNU) are released as source code only. Perversely,
this is to prevent the software from being used outside the fraternity
    of computer hackers.

  • And to make it worse, the wikipedia article has an obvious liberal slant.

Of course, everything on the internet is either totally fucking crazy or slanted liberal.

What's a traditionalist independent to do?

    Wow, just wow.

Now hang on just a cotton-pickin minute here.
I may be Irish, gay, pagan and a computer programmer, but I'm authoritarian conservative.
Hell, the only thing moving me away from ultra right is the fact  that I think dope should be legal, but legislated, gay marriage should be treated in exactly the same way as straight marriage (as in taken off the books altogether and both of them replaced with identical civil unions, complete seperation between church and state).
It's not my definition of conservative gone wrong, it's the American one.

    ...
It's not my definition of conservative gone wrong, it's the American one.

Since you're gay, you're discriminated against and you're are directly exposed to the down side of authoritarianism. But instead of thinking that maybe people should be able to live how they want if they aren't hurting anyone, you decided that everybody should be forced to live the way you think they should live? Now that is a huge WTF.

It's like having a fixed size container that is too small and increasing its size instead of switching to a variable-length container.

That's a flaw with the implementation of authoritarianism, not authoritarianism itself.

    See above.

Yes, it is, but it's not mine.

    No.
It's more like not liking Internet Explorer's implementation of it so I decide to move to Firefox.

  • what the hell are you guys arguing about?   it's not the political stance of the shelley site that makes it so obvious.  it the blatently wrong facts that are paraded around.

  • This thread is one of the oddest I've read so far.

  • My favorite part has got to be the Rapture Index.

  • The whole site is hilarious.

Love the partition for US citizenship for Jesus Christ. Classic.

  • "What is a traditionalist independent to do?"

    Turn liberal. ;)

  • Indeed...and that the OP posted a link like that in the first place! Although with this annoying editor, I guess it was probably an accident.

All I'm going to say is: I HOPE that site's not serious. But I honestly wouldn't be surprised. After all, I'm a Brit, and...well, I've a feeling some Americans aren't the sharpest pencils in the box.

  • EDIT: Well, that's not all I'm going to say. I mean, geez, she forgot to mention ping (for forcing websites offline by sending them too much data), wget (mass copyright violations, as well as the same functionality of ping), and, most heinously of all, traceroute (for pinpointing the location of crucial interchanges on the information superhighway, the intention being to destroy them, either by pings or nuclear missiles)

Yet I'm sure a number of people here would symapthise with the idea of an "Internet drivers license", although our curriculum would be different.
And of course the MPAA, RIAA and suchlike would just LOVE all computers to have to include hardware DRM.
