Windows won't let me open more than 15 files at a time.

I swear I used to be able to do this. When I select more than 15 files in Explorer, it removes the option to open them. What the hell do I do to get back my ability to open multiple files at once?

15 files ought to be enough for anybody.
I have an Open button on my own Windows 7 setup with 20 files selected:

Oh, that way. Yeah. same here.
Registry hack should do the trick ("it works for me"):

So something that they were able to do in Windows XP (displaying a confirmation message before more than X files are opened at once) is now impossible in Windows 7/8?
Microsoft, what the hell?

Well, there probably are a few UI policies that would fit the removal ("users don't like pointless dialogs", "DWIM", etc), and the apps that are able to deal with multiple files can register their shell extensions as such (for example, I can "play in foobar2000" any number of files just fine).
But the most probable cause is that they simply didn't give a shit about the two people who have a fetish of 76 Notepad windows opening at once.

Note: a value of 16 is interpreted as "unlimited" for showing the options from the context menu, however it does not allow the actual opening of the documents selected if selecting more than 16. To allow the opening of more than 16 documents, set this key to a decimal value greater than the amount of documents you wish to open.

Every once in a while dicsourse decides it's time for me to Necro another suggested topic
-
Is there a badge for that?
-
There probably should be. I vote for the following level names:
Necromancer
Necrophile
Necropalypse
-
Necronomicon
-
-
-
Not that I'm aware of.
-
I believe you did, as Google suggested it.
-
Google's probably right, then. They usually are when they suggest stuff like that to me.
-
Yeah, I know.
-
Yay for necro!

4 days is a necro now?
Your standards are slipping.

Still trivial when 4 year necros were regular on CS...
-
I'm guessing that's when DC was installed...
-
The only good thing about standards is how many there are of them.
-
That was usually due to spammers. Alas.
(Seriously, if you watched the unread-post pseudo forum closely, you got to see all sorts of things. Provided the mods didn't get there first.)
