A few years ago I was working with the most horrible Java app that contained about 5 million lines of the most crap procedural code you could imagine. So to combat this problem I thought of crapcode.com where you could post the worst code you found in your daily job (and on angry days name and shame them into quitting to make your life easier) so therefore you stole my idea and you owe me money!!! Of course I never saw my genius idea reach fruition but it was my idea and you obviously were listening in and used it to make yourself millions of $$ each year and I want a slice.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I would love to send you some examples of horrendous code from the app but I'm not good with the specifics, I did enjoy the hilarious stories others have posted and now reading this site takes up most of my working day anyway back to the money you obviously owe me, I'm thinking about 2 million USD should put a sizeable dent in that puppy.<o:p></o:p>

I vaguely remember IntDate which replaced the obviously standard Java date that doesn't work, it stores dates as numbers, but not only that it doesn't inherit from Date use it in any way just to avoid those well documented bugs in Date class. Anyways the business had a weird way of storing the dates in database too which I wish I could remember the specifics because it was the all time greatest WTF, they worked on a 2am to 2am day so when you read a date like 11pm on 13th of July it was really 1am on the 14th of July, make sense. It was awesome!!!<o:p></o:p>

If only you had patented the "unique method" of exposing horrendous code, you could sue for infringement and be rolling in... what is it, Alex? Millions?

Sorry, but all horrendous code IP is covered in patents held by Microsoft. That's why you never see it in, for example, Open Source projects. There might also be public domain horrendous code, but you can't make money off it.

Here in Europe, software patents are not enforceable; this might explain the horrendous code we see sometimes popping up in Open Source projects, too.

Ugh, what a rip off! I've thought of so many genius ideas -- from the merging of ice cream and donuts to those stupid CD Case openers -- myself, only to watch them implemented before I had a chance to think of a way to do it. Finally, I get to be "that guy" who gets there first, and all I get is this website :-)

If it's any consolation, I'm still a few magnitudes away from millions of dollars. Though, I'm sure if I had a good accountant, and could some how bill myself for the time I've spent on the site, I'd already be there ...

Get a good lawyer and you could also sue yourself ... you'll be rich in no time!
