Reminds me of trying to undock my laptop at work, except at least the software can't actually stop me from physically undocking.

I had to remove the network adapter (in Device Manager) several times after I configured it with alternate IP addresses, because the IPv4 properties claimed that the adapter was in DHCP mode, and no matter what else I did, I couldn't remove the second IP (setting the properties appeared to work, but when I reopened them, they showed DHCP again, while adapter still had both IPs configured; doing a netsh reset did not help).
