Being thickheaded is one thing, but thickheaded and stubborn is a whole new magnitude of WTF.
We need a whole forum devoted to management WTFs. Let us complain about our bosses and our Office Space-like experiences.

A good boss is glad to have employees more talented than himself working for him. Especially if they're underpaid.

Wow, that's a real WTF.
But I don't agree with the title: "Recipe for career suicide".
I think the poster should have been happy to be let go from such a stupid boss. It wouldn't have been good for his career if he would have stayed at a company with a completely incompetent and stubborn president.

There are a lot more good reads on that site. Anyone read about the guy who made the database searches for fundraising contributors (PBS) much, much faster? Then was rewarded with his assistant (who had nothing to do with it) becoming his boss?

More accurately, the coders need to be talented at coding, and the boss needs to be talented at management (coding talent is useful but not necessary). Sadly, Mr. Charles is clearly neither.

How in the hell can you write a medium scale application without any concept of subroutines? Even BASIC has subroutines.

absolutely. good managers always hire people who have equal or better talent. in this case, the manager is a buffoon.
