Poll: Will Nagesh ever stop making polls?
- Yes
- No
- Only after @Onyx finds out where he lives
-
I voted "NO".
-
Shocking!
-
Mine was perhaps more of a hopeful response than a truly predictive response.
-
Well, ok, I meant I as in the person who voted, but I shall take this burden upon myself if gods of WTF decide it.
-
I'm no god of WTF but I think I'd appreciate the result, does that count?
-
Depends on what Pakistan does.

Hey, I changed a letter to create a new word. So this will now be grandfathered in when the rules change as a result of me.

Ok, we're just changing a letter now?

How about we make it a group effort. Anybody else in?

Awww, nuts!

While I fully endorse your effort and wish you great success, I am afraid I am unable to participate directly. I would offer financial support, but I am already committed to another project.

I have another project, and it doesn't involve murder.

it doesn't involve murder.
That's such an ugly word (especially when pronounced with a strongly rhotic accent). I prefer to think of it as "lowering your blood pressure" or "inducing a state of total and permanent relaxation1." It sounds so much more pleasant.
Dangnabbit! Discourse strips the id attribute from <a> tags.
1 Yes, I know the relaxation is interrupted by about 24 hours of non-relaxation, but after that the relaxation is quite permanent. (Or maybe not, depending on what you believe about an afterlife.)

Where is the FILE_NOT_FOUND option?

And the forum truly has now turned into 4chan /b/ for coders

Apparently this isn't descriptive enough for Civilized Discourse.

What is up with all this broken polls?
From the old (hidden) FAQ on polls:
@PJH said:
In order to create a poll, two things are needed in your post:
- The subject must start with the text Poll: (you must include the colon and a space after it)
- The body of the message must contain an unordered list with at least one item.
Upon the first submission (i.e. before any edits) the first condition must hold, otherwise your topic will not become, and can never become, a poll.
Getting the subject right but omitting the list will generate an error indicating this on attempting to submit.
Alternatively, if you wish to have other lists in your poll without them being picked up as poll options, specifically markup your options using
[poll]
:
Intro text- list 1 item 1
- list 1 item 2
[poll]
-
poll option 1
-
poll option 2
[/poll] -
list 2 item 1
There doesn't appear to be any hard-coded limit on the number of options, but the more options there are, the slower the poll seems to render and to register a vote. While users can change their vote at any time the poll is open, there is no facility to 'unvote' unless an option is explicitly added to indicate such a vote. A FILE_NOT_FOUND at the end is the usual meme used around here.
Note that the OP can only edit/add/delete options within 5 minutes of creating polls (this is not related to the ninja timeout - this is hard coded.)
Staff may only edit, not add or delete options after 5 minutes (again, not related to the ninja timeout.)
There is currently no facility to see who has voted for which option.
Polls may be closed by changing the start of the topic to "Closed Poll: " (for which a button is provided to simplify the task.) Closed polls may be reopened at any time.
Changing the start of the subject to anything other than "Poll: " or "Closed Poll: " will disable the poll code generation and will result in the options being rendered as a regular list.
Most were lazy and didn't bother with the
[poll]
tags, since they weren't strictly required.

Someone liked my post from June 2014... why does it not pop up a toaster to shame you for your necro-like.

By george! i think he's found the latest bikeshed!
off to meta.d to derail development!

Does this mean that you've cleared your notifications? Or are you looking at your notifications from your profile?
-
After months of not visiting the site at all I forgot how things worked. I clicked my icon to go to the profile page and had it drop down the notifications list, marking all 5000+ of them as cleared. That was a month or so ago.

I forgot how things workedthings got fucking changed on me. I clicked my icon to go to the profile page and had it drop down the notifications list, marking at 5000+ of them as cleared. That was a month or so ago.Don't blame yourself. Up until a few months ago, you would have been perfectly safe to click on your icon to visit your profile without messing up your notifications count. Then TCotCDCK decided that four menus was too many and they merged the notifications menu into the user menu (except staff staff notifications which now go in the hamburger menu). They also eliminated some of the menu options, but that was seen as a necessity to minimize user confusion. And since no one ever wants to log out, that was taken off the menu. A nasty side effect of which is that if an admin wants to impersonate a user, they have to go to the profile page to log out when they're ready to stop impersonating. Which means wiping out that user's notifications. Oops.

Oh god, I thought I left you in a ditch somewhere.

I thought that was not how it used to work. And with most software you'd be more likely to be correct by assuming that you simply forgot how it works... but this. is. Dischorse!
