    me? why?

  • because your system tray is full of crap.  anytime I see a system tray like that ona  computer I run spyware and find loads of stuff.   then again, maybe you don't.

Fixed. You know, IE can deal with two XML tags ....

    so can firefox.

Firstly, it's not a "tag", it's an XML declaration.  A tag is the "<foo>" or "</foo>" that marks the start or end of an element, or the "<foo/>" that marks an empty element.  Secondly, the only place the XML declaration is allowed is right at the beginning of the document - otherwise the document is not well formed, and so the user-agent MUST reject it.  If IE can "deal" with it, then it's wrong, period.

Hm, let me see. Avast (antivirus), wireless access point monitor, google desktop search, icq, iTunes control, googletalk, msn messenger, bluetooth, skype and network (wlan, lan & internet). No spyware ;P Than again.. maybe you're right... I have absolutely too many IM programs :P

    Alex, thanks :)

  • IM programs = spy war to me because they give you popups mostly.  although I never use them so I don't really know.

Unfortunately, IE can deal with a lot of things that make an XML file invalid. This makes IE a non-conforming XML processor.

    Which is wrong.

You mean those message windows from people that want to talk to you? :)

That's sort of like, the core functionality, sir.

Do you complain about the forward motion of your car? Or the websites on the internet?

I see IE's XML parsing is nearly as bad as its HTML parsing (which accepts loads of weird and wonderful things - you should see some of the comments in the LiveJournal HTML cleaner, and those are only the ones which are potential security risks). Of course, I hear Netscape Navigator has a certain amount of responsibility for that particular mess...

XML, though - they have no-one to blame but themselves. (The reason XML parsers are supposed to be strict is to prevent it turning into a complete mess like HTML did.)

Do you complain when a nuclear bomb kills you?  Or when a virus erases your hard drive?  Or when you get shot?  Or when a spambot sends you spam?

Thats sort of like, the core functionality, sir.

The core functionality of dhromed is to get shot?  Poor fellow. :-(

If I have set off the nuclear bomb with the intent of killing myself and it kills me, I do not complain. If I execute a virus with the intention of it erasing my hard drive, I do not complain. If I purchase a gun and pull the trigger with the barrel aimed at myself and I get shot by the resulting bullet, I do not complain.

  • Oh good, another stump thread for pontification and the victims of Firefox Fanboy Syndrome(you saw it here first).  Shouldn't this discussion after the "there's a problem" post and "problem fixed" reply continue on Slashdot, where more people care?
