Registration emails don't work
-
I'm assuming this is a bug specific to this implementation though for all I know, it could well be a bug in Discourse.
I signed up a couple of days ago (day and half? dunno) and didn't get a registration email. Knowing that such things disappear into the ether and concluding it could be a mail queue issue - knowing full well that I work on forum software myself! - I let it go for a bit and tried the resend option. I then left it most of yesterday and tried it again... nothing.
In the end, I found myself checking CS where someone helpfully suggested using password reset which worked.
This strikes me as interesting... firstly, registration emails aren't sending in the first place - there's a problem in itself. But as another question: why is it that inactivated users can effectively bypass activation by way of forgot password? I'm assuming that you're concluding 'user can get forgot-password email therefore the email is all good' but that is a fairly poor start when the user didn't get the original activation email in the first place...

Do you not see the header at the top of every page that explains that @PaulaBean's rampage is, among other things, causing emails to not work?
-
Has PaulaBean been raging for nearly 2 days? Because if not, it's totally unrelated.
And also... when I did the forgot-password routine, I got an email almost straight away, after multiple attempts over that time to get the 'resend activation email' failed.

It started yesterday between 3 and 4 CEST (it's 20:55 CEST when I'm writing this).

Well, I first registered in the very early hours... not sure exactly when but it's possible I was actually just inside that window.
Still don't get how come multiple attempts to get the activation email didn't work but forgot password was almost instantaneous this afternoon.

Interesting: posts that are literal copies of previous posts in the thread are not blocked.

And at the same time you can't fix whitespace! Consistency!
-
Consistency is a thing I'm not entirely sure @codinghorror has heard of. See, I can think of reasons why you might not perform checks on such things (having investigated this on other forum platforms) but the whitespace thing is a bit ridiculous.
It strikes me that such a thing would also limit legitimate typo fixes too...

I registered today!
Got an email and everything...
When trying to click the link in it thunderbird (yeah, I know, I am TRWTF for using it because everything else is better and stuff) tried to warn me though, that this might as well be a spam-mail. Maybe whatever @Arantor used to check mails just trashed it for that reason?
-
I use FastMail.fm (and through their web based interface)... it didn't even turn up in the spam folder.
-
Fastmail.fm its Trwtf

@apapadimoulis needs to turn off the Mandrill link tracking feature in the Mandrill admin panel.

All is fine with the job queue, it has been fine for about 10 hours now.
-
@sam or @PJH what's the reading on the job count?
Dunno why you're asking me Ben - I'm just a mod on here.; I've no idea what Paula's up to.. :)
