Feature Request: Multiple selection of categories
-
(Note: putting this under Bugs because apparently there's no difference.)
Feature Request: I'd like to be able to view a list of posts filtered to show multiple categories at once.
Reason: I watch and read every post, and I often reply. I keep seeing FAQs and Bug Reports in my topic list, which prompts me to read them, and respond. Except apparently my responses are unhelpful noise.
It would be easier for me to avoid derailing these srs bsns posts if they were just filtered out of my view. I am not interested in srs bsns.
Filed under: Fucking hell, why does it delete a whole line when I press CTRL-Z?

Try doing CTRL-Z in an undecorated TEXTAREA like this http://codepen.io/anon/pen/uryJl

Mockup:
-
You can mute the categories you want to remove as a stop gap.
Though I think a "mute from lists only" option is what you are after

OK.
Undecorated: type a few words, paste from clipboard, type a few words
CTRL-Z 1x: deletes last few words
CTRL-Z 2x: deletes pasted text
CTRL-Z 3x: deletes first few wordsDiscourse: same procedure
CTRL-Z 1x: deletes whole line

I'm not supposed to derail them.
Filed under: But derailing is what I do.

I'm not supposed to derail them.
Ah.
No-one is.
And I've fixed it so that I don't have to babysit them 24x7 to make sure that continues :D

No-one is.
Well, yeah, I framed it all as me because I don't feel comfortable speaking as a representative of us, but I'm sure my problem is not unique around here.
I wouldn't seriously suggest a feature if I thought I would be the only one using it.
-
I'm sure my problem is not unique around here.
Yep, I've heard that a lot of guys have that problem.
-
Your fix is to mute the category, which you can do in your user prefs or at the upper right of the particular category page.
And @sam note his results with the textbox.. I continue to maintain that the custom undo and redo crap the editor carries is bad news and should be removed with extreme prejudice. Simpler is better.

It will hose IE users and potentially hurt other users as well.
-
Do not care about IE users. They are hosed already.

Here's a picture so @codinghorror will understand, and then maybe your feature can be implemented!

Irony: Talking about making websites accessible. In a font that screams "take my eyeballs out now!!!!"
-
That font makes comic sans look professional.

btw, you can get rid of the PaulaBean notice, queues have been fine all day, slight load increase but nothing we can not handle till the bot is fixed.
-
-
So, what's up with @codinghorror taking my feature requests out of the bugs category?
-
Why don't you just mute the bugs category, it will hide stuff from latest, so problem solved?

I'm still going to read every post everywhere always.
Still, why do you think multiple selection of categories is a terrible idea?

I don't, I just think it has plenty of chances it would clutter up the UI. The muting stuff pretty much solves the problem of "I just don't want to usually look at this stuff", once muted you can still interact with topics in the catgory, watch them and so on.
