Pins don't stay pinned in the "All Categories" view

Bug: pinned topics don't stay at the top of the "All Categories" view
Expected: pinned topics would stay, well, pinned
Actual: pinned topics work when in a specific filtered category view, but fall to their normal unpinned position when in the All Categories viewEdit: apparently I need more coffee to type a bug report correctly ......

Are we running into a category-pinned vs globally-pinned miscommunication here?
This topic is pinned; it will display at the top of its category, and in default order elsewhere
-
I believe so @riking. I deliberately didn't globally pin the post I suspect @rad131304 is thinking of..
-
There are actually 2 "pinned" topics in that category that function the same .... neither is globally pinned. Maybe have some obvious way to indicate that it's pinned differently? Or suppress the pin in the all categories view if it's not pinned there?
-
Wait, where's the Meta category definition topic.....?
It just isn't pinned

Possibly related bug?
About the Bug Category Topic shows as pinned when topic is filtered to "Meta" but does not show at all in the "All Categories" view
-
Bugs is deliberate I think - there's no reason for it to be globally pinned.
-
Things becoming visible when you're using a filter, ostensibly, to make irrelevant things invisible seems counter-intuitive to me.
-
Well there are two pinning options:
- Pinning when filtering on the (major?) category that post has been placed in
- Pinning all the time.
The problem, I think, stems from if you have 2 or 5 or however many pinned category posts, and quite a few categories with such pinned posts, then your global list isn't going to be much use if most of it is pinned topics and not recent stuff.
Just MHO.

Yeah, I can absolutely see it being a problem, especially with all of the white space and the descriptions included in those topics.
I'm just saying the behavior of not staying at the top, but showing the pinned indicator is a bug to me - i.e. the sanest solution is probably just to suppress the icon when it's not going to get pinned in that view.

Gotcha. This is more likely going to end up being a feature request, rather than a bug, but I'm removing the flag on this topic and leaving it up.

Oddly enough, you can unpin those posts for yourself - just click on the pin. Which begs the question as to why can't all posts have an option to be pinned, if it's per-user anyway...
Filed under: either that or I'm suddenly a mod

I can repro. Which begs the question then why do they pin per category but not globally if you users can just unpin them?
-
Behavior as designed. Pins can be global or per-category.
