Splitting topics results in strange topic owner

  • Alex created the topic and made the last post. Neither of the two posts in the topic are from Alex. And the topic was last posted to before it was created.

@codinghorror one day, I hope, we will be able to move posts to a new topic without user list on the new topic going completely nutcase central 🐓

Creator being Alex is as-designed since he did the split, though.

I think this is one of those correct vs. technically correct situations. Sure, it might technically correct that Alex created it, but for all intents and purposes to an outsider it looks like Ben did it. I can see where this could be useful from an auditing perspective (so that, for example, Ben doesn't get penalised for spamming if a moderator split the topic) however I think the split/created distinction needs to be made a little more clear to prevent user confusion, if making "created by" the owner of the first post is off the table.

I feel like this is far too reasonable a statement of the situation.

Can you try again with a bit more unbridled incoherent rage. Maybe toss a few f-bombs in there for emphasis, to make sure people are listening.

You incompetent asshat. You couldn't program your way out of your mother's vagina. You should quit while you're ahead and shoot yourself now.

Anyone who's not a complete and utter fucking moron knows that the creator of the post is the first person who posted in it. Maybe if your head wasn't so far up your own ass that you're looking at yesterday's Chipotle burrito, you could see what any normal sane person could.

How dare you, how dare you suggest that there could possibly be any opinion other than my own?

  • You presumptuous son of a bitch, how dare you put words in my mouth like that. This was my criticism and you just come in and shit all over it. Maybe you're just so fucking ignorant of the real world that you can't handle everything not being about you that you have to jump in when it's unwarranted, but if you would kindly back the fuck off and let the adults talk, that'd be great.

By the way, if I needed other people to agree with me I'd have a fucking newsletter. You don't see a subscribe link anywhere here, do you?

Filed under: I really hope this thing doesn't let you subscribe to posts, Ain't nobody gets in the way of my ranting.

Oh I LOVE when people are moderately civil instead of being complete overblown shitheads! I LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN THAT!!!

Are people seriously too cowardly to make grotesquely out of proportion demands while attacking strawmen and ad-hominem-ing left and right? What the fuck is up with that? Why does it happen? Goddamned. This forum is the worst, and you all are the worst, and mikeTheLiar codinghorror, you're the worst of the worst.

This forum has been promoted to the worst, everybody who's posted in it except the few people actually posting bugs have been promoted to the worst of the worst, and you know what? Fuck all of this.

    Too late.

Why don't we change it to do what we did at StackExchange.

    • Edit the split out topics first post, attribute that edit to the splitter.

Make the edit something generic like:

This topic was split out from some topic, post #22 link

If the OP hates it they can always edit.

Then you maintain creator and maintain history of splitting.
