Hah

  • Hahaha, same thing happened to me ^_^

  • That's so funny!

    You clicked "Post" as well?

    :)

  • The same thing happened to me once. Er wait, no it didn't, because I thought to myself "I'd like to reply to this post, how would I... Oh! Look here, a reply button!"

I know it's not incredibly intuitive, and the Post button on the bottom of every page might confuse you, but not all of us screwed it up.

First rule of forums: hang back silently for a little while and watch the conversations before you jump in with your opinions. That way we won't have to flame the morons that say "OMG did this really come from Initech?! That's the company from Office Space!"

I don't think I've ever had this happen to me either, but that's probably only because I lurked for long enough to see other victims^Wnew users fall into the same trap. (Of course, if everyone took that approach, it wouldn't work anymore.)

Thing is, it's so tempting - you've finished reading through a long thread, you want to add your comments (which aren't in reply to any comment in particular, or you'd probably clicked "reply" or "quote" on it), 'oh look, there's a handy "Post" button at the bottom of the page'

Wait, will this be a reply or will it start a new thread? I wanted to start a new Side Bar thread. I've heard it's easy, but I can't seem to figure it out.

It is easy, you just can't do it from the sidebar... I know, it's odd.

    ...stuff...

You could tear apart the very fabric of our universe by quoting messages I wrote in two separate threads. Don't let the beams cross! (am I showing my age with that one?)

Yes - I remember my kid brother being into that stuff.

(Iago's first law of internet allusions: no reference to popular culture is sufficiently obscure.)

"victims CLOSE SUB WINDOW new users"

    areuh?

I've never had trouble with the post button, because I never noticed it.

FAQ anyone? I certainly think we have enough material for an entertaining and edifying FAQ.

    • Why did my reply create a new thread?
    • Who is Paul Bean? / Why is everyone misspelling 'brilliant?'
    • What's up with this 'Initech' stuff?
    • What are these goggles that everyone keeps referring to?
    • Why does Gene Wirchenko insist on typing that overly-formal signature?
    • How do I embed a picture in a post? (Or even a smiley, for Pete's sake!?)
    • What is a tri-bool datatype?
    • What is the *real* WTF here?

I know the answers to a few. Not the Gene Wirchenko one, though.

You forgot some (I'm not going to even try and do these prettily, knowing the forum software...):

-So what language -is- this, anyway?
-When will the forum stop mangling posts?
-Why should this be rewritten in JavaScript?
    -Which file isn't being found?
-If there's IsTrue, why not IsFalse and IsFileNotFound?

I'm sure there are more out there...

Well... actually, I wasn't being entirely facetious (except maybe for the last one). I really do think that new users should be given a heads up about the 'Post' button, and how excruciating it is trying to post pictures.

  • You guys are forgetting:

    * Where is the XML?

    Shouldn't that be:
    I = BigButts.like() && I.canLie(false) ?

Ooops, I must have mis-read the API.  Fixed now.

  • You could add:

    • Why do people keep "Fist"ing the site?
    • "Post" -- it isn't just for breakfast any more.
    • Redundant posts to the same WTF
    • VB SUCKS -- There. It's been said. It doesn't need to be said any more.

Sorry. It's been a long day.

How do you spell "dyslexia"? I keep mixing up the letters.

  • Another one...

    "C Pound?  It's C sharp, you idiot!"
