Security Through Insanity

  • Me: "Can I have access to the test version of the [important banking system] app, you know so we can test the migration?"

'Manager': "Okay. I will request you access to the production system."

Me: "No!  I in no way need or want acccess to production."

'Manager': "No, the way the [roll you own!] access management system works, you need access to production before you can have access to test."

Me: "....[revives old dailywtf account to share this 'gem'.]"

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

About 99% of the people with active accounts have moved over to the new forums - you may want to join up and repost there...

99% of the people hate the new forums, but 99% moved over to it? Something's not right here...

198% of people just put up with whatever is dished up.

But for me the new forums don't "feel" right, so I am doing a lonely lurk here...

Same here, you won't find me in Discordia. Staying put right here, and fencing it in so the young wippersnappers stay off my lawn!

  • I'm not alone! *sobs quietly in a corner.

I wondered why it was so quiet.

Well, that and the fact that we stopped people signing up here because 100% of them either didn't post or were spammers....

So there won't even be any kids on the lawn? Huzzah!

  • Idea: set up a CS forum somewhere, create a bot that reposts all the threads (and replies) from the Discourse forums there, so you can read them more comfortably. Bot also reposts replies made in CS to Discourse.

Plus you could password protect the forum so there won't be any spambots or noobs.

  •  TDWTF worthy!

The old situation already was TDWTF-worthy: two very different forums for the article comments and the sidebar/froums section.

But your suggestion of intercourse between Community Server and Discourse tops that by miles.

But it would answer the question which of these two is more popular.

I'm willing to bet all the bitcoins I have that whichever forum the front page directs people to (Discourse) will be more popular.

  • ATM it seems to be directing people to both. It would be good if it kept doing that, so that we enlightened curmudgeons could continue to play silly games in our broken old CS playground and leave Discourse to the hapless gibbering app-fondling touchscreen cretins and their ilk.

  •  Top-right "Forums" link still comes here. It's only the comments on the front-page articles that randomly links to the two discussion areas (both of which are not these forums)

That, and the section on the left "Side Bar" that points to the discussions here for "Sidebar".  That is how I always get here and, frankly, did not realize there was a new sidebar on the "new" side.

So, which side are the side bar discussions supposed to be on?  I want to side with the right side of the side bar.  Any insiders care to take a side and explain the sides the side bars are supposed to side?  Besides, aside from the fact that the side bar in the side bar on the main page goes to the side that the old side bars took place on, the fact that it is inside the left side bar gives more credibility to its side.

  • As an aside, there's a side to the main site you didn't cite, which is that although the main site's main "Side Bar WTF" link links to this side's site, sited directly under that are side bar thread links, some of which link to threads on this side's site though others link to threads from the site on the other side.
