I see chown and forward slashes, so it's a *NIX system. Hopefully, otherwise this is an even biger WTF.

Ah. In that case, to use the one I have access to as an example, KSnapShot will take a screenshot of the whole of a window regardless of which parts of the window are actually visible in the viewport. (Presuming "Window under Cursor" is the selection criteria.)

I suspect he hit Shift+Command+4, then pressed the spacebar and clicked in the window. That grabs a shot of the window from the screen buffer, so it doesn’t matter how big the window is or if other windows are displayed over it.

Yup. It's on a mac, and surprisingly, it doesn't matter how big the window is. The error message is from an Eventide plugin installer, BTW.

Alt-PrntScr takes the rectangular portion of the window that's on the screen and captures it directly from the screen buffer, which will also include anything that's floating on top of the window.
