Frist and welcome then die

  • This is a cry for help.

    1. I get the "Frist! And welcome" e-mail, check that it's not covert spam and click the link
    2. I try to sign in repeatedly, but it doesn't work (invalid credentials). Signing on/off works on normal site, so I assume it's a separate account for some Disqus-like network or something.
    3. I try to create a new profile. Site doesn't complain until I click submit, where it complains that the e-mail is already in use.
    4. LastPass has already saved my new password for this site.
    5. Now I don't dare to log off on TDWTF and realize I'll soon be gone.

If anyone have the option of resetting my password, please please do so..

What's going on? People are talking about "new forums", but it looks like the same old CS from my end.

So that's why we're all here?

  • You gotta use the "reset password" link from the email you were sent. EDIT: Rather, you have to follow the link in that page and then, when it asks you to log in, you need to use "reset password" instead.

And no, there's no way you would have known to do that based on the content of the email. Especially if you haven't followed the one topic in General Discussion where people are talking about this new forum bullshit. I guess telepathy is required.

I hope Alex posts his own WTFs on his own homepage. I'm sure there's more to come.

  • Is my current account supposed to work there or do I have to make a new one? Because it's not working.

Also, jesus christ the layout there is confusing. What's wrong with lines and separators? It's like a white sea of nothingness with some content awkwardly thrown in the middle.

Stick either the email address you currently have set for your profile under CS or your username into the password reset box. Some minutes to hours later you'll get a link to reset your password.

  • Thunderbird thought the links in DC's emails were a scam. Not surprising, since they go to a completely different domain for tracking.

AFAIK, that's the nr.1 way, chosen by 90% of all professionals when they want to ruin a successful forum.

Stick with email, as some users (like myself) had their username mangled due to developer stupidity technical limitations.

Your user name should work if it is a single word with no "funny" characters. (Apparently ' ' and '.' are hilarious, but '_' is not.)

Yes, I misread it as this every time.

No notification for me. I do have thread notifications off, but that shouldn't apply to forum notifications, no? Then again, it's CS so who knows...

Password recovery on Intercourse also did a big fat nothing, so far at least. It's only been half a day though, maybe all the pigeons are still tired.

  • Remember to check your spam filters, lots of people were saying the password emails for discourse were getting flagged.

Mine came through and wasn't flagged as spam, but it took a couple of hours. Why it took 2+ hours is TRWTF.

The password reset e-mails didn't even reach my e-mail server, so no, they did not get caught in a spam filter.

No idea why there are delays sending things for some and not others. Mine came through after like a minute or two, but maybe I requested it right before they sent a batch of emails or however they are set up to do that stuff.

So yeah, my account didn't get migrated at all it would seem. I just managed to create a new one, same username and all.

I don't mind really, not like anything other than usernames got migrated, and I don't have any awesome stats I want to keep even if they got transferred.

What I'm wondering is, could that mean my account broke Alex' migration script in some weird way?

Nothing in there that springs out... seems that some people simply got missed. Nagesh is citing racial discrimination for his omission of course...

Hmm.. and "Onyx" is black. And "ender" is Slovenakian. So maybe it is racism..

  • BINNED

Nagesh is breaking the pattern actually. Eastern-southern-Balkans-whateverwecallithesedays peoples are obviously being systematically discriminated against here!

Also, Indians. Still trying to figure out which ones though.

I didn't get migrated and I'm from the UK. If this is a pattern, it's a pretty complex one. I suspect that they only migrated accounts over a certain post count.</>

  • I haven't seen any emails - so it probably is some kind of pseudorandom selection process.  Of course, the more I use computers the more I suspect that they really aren't deterministic machines...

It just did the same to me, I think the old girl is finally giving up. We've probably migrated just in time...

Yesterday it looked like I got migrated, but today I could (had to) create a new profile...

  • I'm not too worried - this is a throw-away account anyway. If I'm forced to migrate, I really wouldn't care if I had to create another username for that... er, another another username.

Do you keep your LastPass database in DropBox? If so, you could log in to the DropBox website and access the changelog for that file, and download the version just before your password got erased.

Well, if you're anything like me then you'll need a new name anyway as yours is too long. I am now RTapeLoadingErr which is not the same.

If your idea of "flat design" is a white sea of nothingness, you're either misunderstanding what "flat" design is, or you're just very uncreative. You can and should still have solid contrasting colours to separate between distinct things on the page so that it doesn't just look like a big wall of seamless text.

  • Some of us like big walls of text.

But we also like using sites that don't try to re-invent every fucking feature of our browsers just because the designers bar up whenever they think of AJAX.

I've seen the Win8 Start Screen; "flat design" is monochrome icons in meaningless panels of slightly strange colours.

    Precisely.

We're building out an internal tool which uses those conventions, not because it's good usability (It's good enough, and better than the current iteration of the same toolset), but because it looks HELLA FLASH and will demo well, thereby increasing chances of getting properly funded.
