Those ads
-
Who picks those ads? Does Alex pick them, or do they just automaticially change? The last few pictures have been just *creepy* - that Joel guy from stink-it looks posessed, and the hand-drawn screaming 'confluiference' woman has no nose.
Is it just me? Or do you guys think the same way?
-
I'm with ya on this one. Freaky, man, freaky.
-
When someone buys an ad, I can reject it -- and I've only done that once b/c I didn't think it was appropriate for the site (politics). Aside from that, I don't question the ads -- they're from people who are paying a good chunk of money and I figure, if you're doing that, you probably know what you're doing (ok, I kow that's not true always). Maybe they work for "most" people?
I will say though -- SnagIt is an awesome tool to have -- I haven't used this Confluence thing though.
-
Alex: freaky != bad. In fact, I find them interesting.
I'd say they caught the eye a hell of a lot better than annoying pop-unders or wiggling "You won!!!" flashing boxes.
-
I'd rather have the small freaky picture on one side of the site than any kind of pop up/down/under/over advertising.

How am I the new guy? I have >100 posts (more than you)! And BTW, I don't think anybody's goggles work [:P]
-
Oh and BTW, I blocked the images from those ads by adding a
127.0.0.1 images.blogads.com
line to my hosts file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts), which basicially redirects requests sent to images.blogads.com to 127.0.0.1 (loopback IP). Now I just get a "broken picture" in IE instead of ads.

The new guy in the ad.
With the faulty googles.

Oh, right [:$]
-
Oh... and... as the number of ads increases, the gap between the first post on the page and subsequent posts grows proportionally... I'm not so sure that CS really handles this scenario well, and it's being pushed beyond its natural abilities (whatever they are).
-
Yeah, why do we have three ads now? I've never seen more than one in the 6 months I've been reading TDWTF.
-
Sorry about that, that was my mistake. I overbooked this week.
But, the new layout/software will have a real sidebar that features two ads and maybe some other content.
-
When are we switching over to the new system?
-
Ppretty soon ... my full-time distraction ended last Friday, so I've now got quite a bit more time to kill. This is on my "to-do".
