Earth week

  • Java Dev

Not an IT wtf but still...

To celebrate earth week, everyone here got a plastic bird house. That they're probably going to throw away. Near the end of April, so even if you put it up anywhere it's not going to get inhabitants this year...

  •  These crazy thematic days are the dumbest thing regardless of plastic birdhouses.

    EVERY DAY is earth day.

  • See, they are all going out and using their own money to buy some carbon that would be released into the athmosphere otherwise, show it for everybody for a week, and then bury it somewhere it won't cause any problems.

I'd say you are allowed to be as pedantic as you want if you've punched Bart Sibrel.

  • Thursday is Kepler-16 day, but other than that, yeah.

40,000 Microsoft recycling bins almost sent to landfill

OK I sense some dissonance there between the headline and the actual content of the article.
    @The Article said:

The Washington State Recycling Association, a trade group, today named Tom and Justin Roth "Individual Recycler of the Year" for redistributing the bins so they could be reused instead of thrown out. Tom, who is Justin's dad, works at Microsoft. He and Justin found donated space on a cargo ship and sent the bins to organizations such as the Chignik Tribe in Alaska, as well as the Mukilteo School District. The Colville Tribe has used the bins to expand itsr recycling.

So... Instead of being praised for what it actually did, it is criticized by what it almost did? The fuck?

But the media doesn't have an anti-Microsoft bias!

  • Earth Day is a religious holiday which I choose not to observe. Maybe if "environmentalism" was more about actually caring about the environment and less about asinine Malthusian propaganda which never comes true, maybe I'd be on-board.

Look, environmentalism has ALWAYS been about aesthetics. Ever since the days when "conservation" took the form of the king trying to make sure that people didn't kill all the deer or cut down all the trees. The problem with overpopulation is not because the world will end if there are too many people. It's that the view won't be quite as good if it's covered with all those other assholes and their stuff.

Which I agree with 100%. The problem is nobody will go in for my "Kill everyone but Morbs and the really super-boneable chicks and maybe a few guys to be slaves" plan. They all want to drive crappy cars and eat twigs, which is stupid.

Edit: It also doesn't help that all the enviromental-y women are gross. Do you think I like going to Greenpeace meetings, getting up in front of the crowd and being like "The solution is to kill all of you ugly broads."? I've had so many vile, unwashed Birkenstocks thrown at me..

Is more than that, nowadays every title is pretty much click bait, and everybody is fucking doing it, even scientific press...

  • Mr Thomas Malthus was genius. So "asinine" and "Malthusian" don't even read right to being with.

This was a small companion article to a longer article previously posted about how Microsoft does a ton for green projects. This is what I mean by people cherry-picking articles to support their own prejudices and beliefs.

And I'm fine with that, as long as they are picking anti-Microsoft articles.

So, in your mind, telling the truth most of the time makes up for them deliberately distorting it other times?
