Sorry, you're not elegible because of reasons



  • Just a few days ago I got a new LG phone (a low-end one, with a 480x320 screen, an awful camera, and 2GB of usable storage, but it works surprisingly well). Long story short, they have a promotion where if you download Box from their shitty app store you get upgraded to 50GB of storage for free (you have to register an LG account, but I guess that's a small price to pay). I can't link you directly there because the website is done entirely in Javascript, just search it in the previous link if you're interested.

    Shortly after I receive this email:

    Well, why not? I click that button aaand..

    WTF? My email is "not supported"? No other explanation? Oh, I just have to "update" it... to what exactly? Will a Gmail account work? Could you tell me that before making me to try it? The "@company.com" hints that maybe want something that looks like a corporate address, but why the hell can't they tell me what they want? And why send me the message in the first place?

    And yes, I still use Yahoo mail. I use Gmail too, but never bothered to properly migrate, because hey, it works fine.

    Sounds like the promotion's not available in Spain, and they want you to use an address that isn't Spanish. You should try a .eus address instead.



  • I have an LG phone too (nexus 4) but never bothered to sign up with Box. I wonder if they'll accept my .id.au email address? (This domain is quite a pita to use on android, always autocorrecting to "I'd" and then inserting a space after the dot.) The id stands for "individual".

    Edit: went to your link and it tells me my phone is not supported as it's not an LG phone. Despite having a honking big LG logo on the back! Not Lucky and no Goldstar!



  • Possibly because it's Yahoo. They're notorious arseholes for trying to deliver mail to. Gmail would probably work fine.



  • Eh, for $REASONS I have a 50GB Box account for some time now, never really use it (tend to use Dropbox and Copy...). I can refer people for 50GB accounts as well, and it does not seem to be limited to specific email addresses... so if anyone wants to try...

     I installed Box from the Play store and created an account using a GMail account.

    The upgrade happened the first time I logged in with the app.


  • I got 50GB from a Sony phone promotion once, but i stopped using it when it started clearing all my files at random. Not deleting, but emptying the file.
    Also you can't upload files larger than X mb, because it's still technically a free account. So you have 50GB, but you can't store anything above a few MB in size in it.

    I'll take my 2,7gb dropbox instead, at least it works properly.

    I'll take my 2GB Dropbox, 15GB Google Drive, and 7GB Windows Live Folders SkyOneDrive that contains a single Word document.

    That's a .Net artifact.  The fact that it's there... multiple times... with nothing in it... that's an artifact of "they dont know the framework they're using".
